A surprised mother has told how she managed to become pregnant while already pregnant, giving birth to two daughters five days apart. Odalis and Antonio Martinez of San Pablo, California, we're ecstatic to learn that they were expecting a baby in November 2020, much more so than typical given the couple's heartbreak following a miscarriage a few months previously.

However, when the 25-year-old went in for her first scan a few weeks later, she was both astonished and happy to hear that she was expecting not one, but two separate kids, each conceived at different times within the same week.
The full-time mother described giving birth to her daughters Lilo and Imelda Martinez-Atoyac as a "miracle," but admits that the two are so alike that she and Antonio have mistaken them for one another.
Odalis claims she tells people they are twins rather than having to explain the facts because they appear so similar.
She said: "I just say that they're twins but after reading a lot of articles I know that they're technically not twins but it's just confusing for people so I just tell them like 'yeah, they're twins.'”
"They're technically not even identical but everyone thinks that they are. They look a lot alike.”
"Sometimes me and my husband, well more my husband, will get them mixed up with each other.”
"Antonio will have a baby for an hour and be like 'oh Lilo' this and that and I'm like 'you have Imelda' and he will be like 'what?' and I'm just there laughing because he was like 'oh my God for a whole hour I thought I had Lilo'."
Odalis and Antonio, who works as a counselor, married in early 2020 and hoped to create a family together.
She became pregnant, but after their 12-week check-up in July 2020, they realized she had miscarried.
When she became pregnant for the second time, emotions were running high in the days leading up to her first scan, with Odalis admitting that she was mentally preparing herself for the worst.
Odalis was overjoyed when the doctor told her the baby was healthy, but she went into overdrive when she learned she had found another baby with a heartbeat.
Odalis said: "I was just crying with happiness. I felt like the first baby that we had lost was in the room with me and saying it was going to be OK."
The babies were born on August 10, 2021. Lilo, who was the first to be conceived, was also the first to be born, weighing 6 pounds and 12 ounces. Imelda arrived next, weighing 7lbs 3oz.
Odalis said: "When I held them and knew that they were OK, I can't even explain the feeling.”
"I love my family and my husband, but I had never experienced love and happiness like that."
