Ryder Flanagan pulled the air fryer off the kitchen counter and got badly burned
Mother Warns Others After 1-Year-Old Son Gets Severe Burns From Air Fryer
A little boy, only a year old, needed surgery due to severe burns he sustained after he accidentally pulled an air fryer onto himself.
The child, named Ryder Flanagan and hailing from Georgia in the United States, suffered significant burns on both his hands and face as a result of pulling the appliance from the kitchen counter.
His mother, Abigail Flanagan, explained that Ryder had pulled on it 'as soon as it dinged'.
She shared with The Daily Mail that the air fryer hadn't been positioned at the edge of the counter. Instead, he had 'jerked the handle and the back of the air fryer basket is what hit his face'.
"He has grown an inch since birth and is as big as a 2.5-year-old. I didn't have a clue he could attempt to reach the handle," she commented.
Following the incident, Ryder's parents, Abigail and his father, Blake, quickly took him to Wellstar Cobb Burn Center.
He underwent a stem cell transplant surgery on Thursday (July 25). This surgery involved putting the little boy to sleep.
The procedure typically entails transferring stem cells either from the blood or bone marrow.
These can come from a close relative or even from the individual themselves, as per NHS information.
Additionally, The National Library of Medicine notes that stem cells are beneficial in aiding wound regeneration.
Abigail mentioned that all the damaged skin had been removed. Although Ryder has been released from the burns unit, he will continue to need further treatment.
Despite the severe ordeal he went through, Ryder remains in high spirits, his mother observed. She also noted that they do not anticipate any more surgeries for him in the future.
Abigail also expressed her gratitude on a GoFundMe page. This page was set up by a family friend to help cover 'any unprecedented costs'.
It was created on July 20, and she took the opportunity to update everyone on her son's condition.
She said: "I just want to say thank you to every single person that has prayed and donated. We pray God blesses each of you as much as we have been blessed.
"Everyone has took so much burden and worry off of us and it's truly a miracle with everyone's prayers that Ryder has only showed he was in pain when it first happened.
"You can tell he doesn't feel just right but he has not been in distress. And as bad of shape I was in when this all happened I can tell you that the prayers for me God has answered."
"Thank you everyone, family and friends and a lot of people we don't know personally, we love you all so much."
As of now, the GoFundMe has gathered $4,050, surpassing the initial goal of $2,000.
