Horror fans, take note: there's a new movie in town, and it's so awful that some viewers walked out halfway through.
New British Horror Is So Spine-Chilling People Walked Out Of The Cinema
Men is the film in question, a visceral and perplexing journey into sorrow, solitude, and pain from the mind of Alex Garland, the filmmaker behind Ex Machina and Annihilation.
Moving away from the sci-fi genre, Garland has gone all out with the dread, including themes of suicide, sexual assault, domestic abuse, and gender relations — and that's only the beginning.
Previously dubbed the "b*****d child" of Hereditary and Get Out, the plot revolves around Harper (Jessie Buckley) as she spends a couple of weeks in a manor house in rural England following her husband's sad death.
But what was supposed to be a healing sanctuary becomes a shape-shifting nightmare when she sees a familiar face (if you know, you know) stalking her.
When she tries to find refuge in the nearby town, things take an even worse turn.
Without giving too much away, there's one sequence, in particular, involving the film's other lead, Rory Kinnear, that will turn even the most hardened horror fans off their popcorn.
Men has caused outrage among viewers, with many characterizing it as one of the most disturbing films they've ever seen.
"The new A24 movie Men was so disturbing I wanted to crawl out of my own body," wrote one on Twitter, while another said: "The new #a24 movie is one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen."
A third commented: "I JUST SAW MEN DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MOST DISTURBING SCENES EVER OH MY GOD WHAT WAS THAT @A24."
"I’ve seen a lot of disturbing, horrifying horror movies, but Men really made me want to walk out the theatre from being so disturbed,” added a fourth.
“@A24 y’all need to be arrested for the psychological damage your movies do to me.”
“If you’re thinking about watching A24’s MEN DON’T bro OML I have never seen multiple people walk out of a theater before,” warned one.
“If I had the opportunity to capture my face in the last act I would because I have no words to describe it.”
Another wrote: “Watched @A24 #MenMovie and during the final scene I saw some men walk out lmao.”
So, what do you reckon – think you can stomach it? There’s only one way to find out… Men is out in cinemas now.
