Non-Americans Ask Hilarious Questions About The US
#1
"Do people genuinely share a room at university? Not just a house, an actual room? If yes, why..?"
I would guess that the best answer for this is that it saves money. College is expensive enough, and worrying about the added expense of paying rent on your own is something most college students do not want to bear.
#2
"Is 'making out' kissing?"
For the most part, yes. But, in most cases it also includes petting.
#3
"What are basic bitches?"
A basic bitch is someone who wholeheartedly upholds all of the status quo and stereotypes of their gender without even noticing what they are doing. Her behaviors are typical and unoriginal.
#4
"Do all American high schools really have lockers?"
As far as I know, the answer is yes. This is so kids have a place to stow away their personal items and books instead of having to carry everything with them all day long.
#5
"What in the actual fuckery is Miracle Whip?"
It is heaven in a jar!
#6
"What is the prom all about?"
Prom is all about teenagers bumping and grinding on each other for a few hours after getting thoroughly drunk on their way to the event. Most end up losing their virginity before the night is over.
#7
"What's the deal with that big bowl of red fluid bursting through walls shouting, 'Oh yeah!'?"
Hey! Do not knock the Kool-Aid man! He has been a true leader in childhood obesity for as long as I can remember.
"Why are there four commercial breaks in a one-hour episode of a show? You can't watch anything that way."
"Why are there four commercial breaks in a one-hour episode of a show? You can't watch anything that way."
Because we are a country that is ran by greedy people who find the most ways to annoy us with their ads while holding us hostages because we really want to watch our favorite shows.
#9
"Eggnog. Why only eggnog at Christmas? Why not eggnog in July?"
Your guess is as good as mine. If we could buy egg nog all year round, I know I would be one happy camper.
#10
"Do your high schools actually have school newspapers?"
Not all high schools put out a student newspaper, but many do. It is a way of keeping the students involved or at least educated on what is going on within their school.
#11
"Are no other colour party cups available?"
No. Red Solo cups have a monopoly on our party beverage containers. That is the only explanation that I can think of.
#12
"Is the bullying really that bad in American high schools as it is on TV shows?"
Sadly, the answer to this is yes. Not only is bullying happening in high schools, it happens at all schools from elementary on up. Kids in the Unites States are more cruel than most adults can be.
#13
"Are guns actually that abundant in America?"
Guns are everywhere. You can buy them in Walmart or from your neighborhood gun store or the trunk of a car. It is pretty scary how easy it is to get guns in the US, legally or illegally.
#14
"What's a nightcap? Is it just a mushroom?"
A night cap is when you go home, either alone or with a date, and have one last drink for the night. If on a date, this usually will lead to sex.
#15
"Why are there flags everywhere?"
Because...'Murica! We are one proud country, and you can find our flags flying at just about any place you go.
#16
"In American TV shows, people are wearing their shoes in the house and even putting them up on the fucking couch! Is this for real?"
Not in my house!I have noticed the same thing watching television and it makes me cringe. As the saying goes, you cannot believe everything you see on TV.
#17
"How did sixteenth birthdays become so important?"
Sweet 16 is the last year that most teens get to behave like children. By the age of 17, most are working jobs and paying some bills, and once they turn 18, they can be sent out into the world as adults.
#18
"Why are there ads on TV for prescription meds?"
It is a good way to make people aware of the latest breakthroughs in medicine. However, it is more than likely that it is just another way for corporate America to line their pockets.
#19
"In high school, when the bell rings, is it actually the same sound as the fire alarm like in TV shows?"
Our bells between classes are either a loud ringing on a big hard bell like the one depicted or just a loud singular computerized tone. The fire alarms tend to sound more like sirens.
#20
"WTF is a corn dog? is it a hot dog with sweet corn?"
A corn dog is processed meat left overs covered in cornbread and shoved on a stick. They are actually quite delicious if you can forget that video you saw of how hot dogs are actually made.
#21
"Do kids really have candy/pastries in their lunchboxes, and are soda machines actually a thing in schools?"
Most kids do not bring their lunches with them to school, but those that do may have these items. Some schools have actually banned kids from being allowed to bring sweet treats to school as part of their lunches. As far as the soda machines go, I have seen some in high schools but not in younger grade schools.
#22
"Why is it that violence on TV is just fine, but one visible nipple causes an outrage?"
The reason why a nipple sparks outrage is because it has become oversexualized over the years. If people would just remember that nipples are a source of food for babies, we would have one less thing to bitch about.
#23
"Half-cooked burgers. Aren't you afraid of food poisoning?"
Beef is one of those things that you can eat rare and not have to worry about getting sick. It is things like chicken and pork that we must be sure that they are fully cooked.
#24
"Why is the water level in your toilets so high?"
I believe it is because of our American diets. The worse you eat, the more you poop. And, you cannot take a big poop in a toilet with very little water. It would make one heck of a mess.
#25
"Do students at American public high schools really get served up lunch everyday? Is it free or do you pay?"
Lunch is served daily in all public schools. Most of them, you have to pay a small fee up to $3, but other schools have implemented free lunch programs. Sadly, the food sucks either way.
#26
"Will Ferrell. Is he a comedian?"
Dry, right?! I am glad I am not the only one who has questioned this. To me, he is more of a big man baby than a funny man.
