Non-binary Music Artist, Demi Lovato Announces That It’s Okay To Misgender Them Accidentally
Demi Lovato, the 28-year-old singer announced in May that they were non-binary. After certain online incidents where they were misgendered were debated heavily online, they took to the internet to settle the issue.
In a post on Twitter and Instagram, they posted a note where they said that it was okay to misgender them as long as it was accidental and done in good faith.
They also said that they themselves have made the mistake before and that transitioning pronouns was going to take work and practice.
The complete post read, “I accidentally misgender myself sometimes! It's a huge transition to change the pronouns I've used for myself my entire life. And it's difficult to remember sometimes!"
"As long as you keep trying to respect my truth, and as long as I remember my truth, the shift will come naturally."
"I'm just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process."
The caption of the post also stated,
“I felt the need to post this because I often find that the change in pronouns can be confusing for some, and difficult to remember for others. It's all about your intention. It's important to me that you try, but if you make a mistake, it's okay. Remember that I love you, and to keep going."
There has been an outpouring of support for the artist since their coming out and this post has added to the love that their fans give them.
