She learned that Kenneth was raising money for his wife's medical costs, as Helen had been diagnosed with cancer. The next year, Kenneth was back on the same corner selling his kindling, but this time Kenneth told Jessica that Helen had passed away.

He would stand outside everyday selling his kindling for hours, and would stand outside with his hat over his heart waving at every car that passed by.

Jessica posted about this sweet senior on Facebook, writing, ‘If y'all need any kindling wood please come buy from this precious 80 year old elderly man. His name is Kenneth. He parks on the corner of Carl leggett and west Taylor Rd. In Gulfport right near bayou bluff.'

Jessica then explains his background story, writing, ‘Last year he was there selling as well but he had his sweet little wife Helen with him. He was selling to help pay for his wife's doctor visits and bills. This year he was alone.'

‘My heart breaks every time I pass him,' writes Pittman. 'He waves at every single car that passes. Precious man. I can't buy it all!! Anyway We can all spare $5 to help this sweet man,' she added. Jessica explained that he had spent all his life savings to cover her medical bills, and was stuggling to make ends meet.

After she posted this message, Kenneth's son Leslie started a GoFundMe account for his father to help raise money for the medical bills. The response has been overwhelming with strangers donating funds and the total has reached over $106,000. There are so many comforting messages and words of encouragement for this sweet senior. ‘She's up there watching,' says Kenneth, 'and she's proud of me.'
