Fire service worker Andrew Davies, 36, was partying in Krakow, Poland when he was the victim of an unprovoked attack which turned his skin to "candle wax".

The father-of-two from Swansea entered a bar in the Polish city with his friends only to leave after finding the toilets covered in excrement.

#2 The Welshman required skin crafts on his ankles and had a chemical peel used to treat his badly burned face

However, the group were followed by the bar owner and a young woman who threw an acid-like cleaning bleach at them with poor Andrew taking the brunt of the attack.

Andrew, who works at the Mid and West Wales Fire Service with his brother Steve, sustained excruciating third degree burns to his face, upper body and ankles.

Steve,39, who was also on the trip, said his sibling was almost unrecognisable.

He said: "It was horrific - he looked like a wax candle.

"There was blood streaming off his face and head. All he could say was ‘She threw chemicals over me'.

"Andrew had his face, neck, upper torso, both his eyes and his right ankle burned. His ankles required skin grafts."

Family man Andrew was flown back to Swansea last Saturday where he was treated at the specialist burns and plastics unit in Morriston Hospital.

And while he had skin crafts on his ankles, Steve says a chemical peel was used on his brother's face.

He said: "They took his skin back to the base layer.

"He had third degree burns."

Steve was also on the stag weekend but was not present when Andrew was attacked.

He said: "We started to filter back to the hotel and Andrew and the others were finishing off a drink.

"They were walking from one bar to another. They walked into a bar to use the toilet but there were faeces all over the wall.

"As they walked out there was a man asking them to clean up the mess they refused as it was someone else's mess.

"They were sitting in a beer garden five to 10 minutes later and Andrew and his friends were attacked with a chemical.

"It was an industrial alkaline some kind of cleaning product.

"A girl from the bar was spraying them all with it and threw the bottle over Andrew.

"One of the boys was burned on his ankle, another on his leg and another on his arm."

Steve, who said dealing with the Polish authorities was difficult due to the language barrier, added that the family will be taking legal action against the owner of the bar.

He said: "We called the police but it's been a long drawn out process.

"The girl tried to run when she saw the police - but they charged her.

"I was in hospital with Andrew when he gave a police statement.

"When Andrew is feeling a bit better we will be getting a solicitor to deal with it and prosecute the bar owner."

Steve added: "Physically he will get better but he says he never wants to drink again or go to a bar again.
