A Tesla belonging to Owen Wilson was spotted on the streets of Santa Monica, California, on Monday, nearly a week after thieves took the vehicle's rims and tyres.
Wilson, 53, was reportedly the victim of a grand theft auto heist on May 28 while his electric vehicle was parked outside his Santa Monica, California residence, according to TMZ.
According to the source, the actor from Midnight in Paris only learned about the incident the next morning. The stolen car parts were believed to be worth roughly $4,000 in total.
The model Tesla that the celebrity owns is unknown. According to Motor Trend, the Tesla Model X costs over $100,000, while the Model 3 starts at $45,000.
According to TMZ, the event was being investigated as grand theft.
No arrests have been made in the case as of Tuesday, and investigators were reviewing surveillance cameras in the area.
The incident occurred during a period of rising crime in Los Angeles: in 2021, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported a total of 39,894 stolen automobiles, up from 34,003 in 2020, an astounding 17 percent increase.
In March, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon launched a public service announcement (PSA) providing homeowners 'tips' to avoid having their automobiles stolen during an increase in car thefts.
According to LAPD figures, Gascon addressed the surge in car thefts that has reached a 10-year high in the city by saying he intends to "partner with law enforcement" to hold car thieves accountable.
Wilson, meantime, discussed his career in an interview with Esquire last year.
'Sometimes it seems like life is being played by Gene Hackman in Hoosiers. Tough but fair. He's going to demand a lot, but if you play as a team and do your job, things work out,' he said.
However, the performer admitted that he often found himself in a position where the difficulties of life were particularly apparent.
'But of course sometimes life seems to be played by Tom Hardy in The Revenant, some nightmarish guy trying to kill you,' he stated.
Wilson then offered a bit of advice regarding life's harsher and less hopeful moments.
'When life's being played by that guy, you just gotta hang on and wait for it to pass,' he advised.
The performer also expressed that he was grateful for the opportunities he had been given over the past few decades.
'I've been in sort of a lucky place of feeling pretty appreciative of things. I know everything's kind of up and down, but when you get on one of these waves, you've gotta ride it as long as you can,' he said.
Despite his current focus on auto maintenance, Wilson is also involved in developing several upcoming feature films.
The actor is set to participate in the upcoming film Secret Headquarters, which is about a boy who fears his father is a superhero after discovering a secret lair beneath his home.
The film, which also stars Michael Pena and Jesse K. Williams, will be released on August 5.
The actor is due to appear in the horror-comedy film Haunted Mansion, which is based on the same-named Disneyland attraction.
Wilson plays a priest who a single mother approaches in an attempt to exorcise a New Orleans home.
