Police claim that a Pennsylvania man attempted to purchase stolen human remains from an Arkansas woman to resell them on Facebook. He was charged with the abuse of a corpse, receiving stolen goods, and other offenses.
Pennsylvania Man Arrested For Buying, Selling Human Body Parts On Facebook
A guy is in custody after East Pennsboro Township Police said he was selling and buying human remains on Facebook.
Police claim that on June 14, 2022, they got a complaint about an Enola guy who was allegedly buying body parts on Facebook.
According to the police, they met with Jeremy Pauley, 40, who claimed to be a collector of "oddities," possessing three complete skeletons and roughly 15-20 human heads. These products were "very old and came from a legitimate purchase," according to the police.
On July 8, authorities were contacted by someone who had discovered five buckets filled with human skin and organs in a basement. 3-5 gallon buckets containing various human remains were discovered when East Pennsboro Police Detectives, Cumberland County Forensics, and the Cumberland County Coroners' office executed a search order on the home.
Two human brains, skin, a heart, kidney, spleen, fat, a skull with hair, two livers, six pieces of skin/fat, a trachea, a child's jaw with teeth, and two lungs were found in the buckets, according to court documents.
Further research revealed that Pauley was reportedly purchasing human remains from a lady in Arkansas via Facebook Messenger. According to police, Pauley spent $4,000 on body parts, including a full female pelvis, a head missing the skull cap, three brains with the cap, a heart, a liver, a lung, two kidneys, a piece of skin with a nipple, and four hands.
Police discovered that the packages were sent from Arkansas using the US Postal Service. A woman, identified in court documents as Candace Scott, was reportedly stealing body parts from an Arkansas morgue that belonged to the University of Arkansas, according to an investigation by the FBI Arkansas and the Arkansas State Police. It is unclear from Pennsylvania court records if the woman was charged.
Pauley was interrogated by East Pennsboro Police and an FBI Harrisburg agent. According to the affidavit, Pauley acknowledged buying two shipments of body parts from Scott in Arkansas. According to the police, Pauley said he was reselling those body parts to individuals for profit.
Scranton was also the site of human remains, according to East Pennsboro Township Police. Pauley's residence is listed as being in Bloomsburg in court records.
On allegations of felony dealing in proceeds of illegal activity, felony receiving stolen goods, misdemeanor receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor abuse of a body, Pauley was detained and released on $50,000 bail.
The East Pennsboro Township Police, FBI Harrisburg, FBI Scranton, FBI Arkansas, Arkansas State Police, Cumberland County Coroners office, Cumberland County Forensics Division, Bloomsburg Police Department, US Postal Service, and Pennsylvania State Police all worked together to conduct the investigation.
The date of Pauley's preliminary hearing is September 14.
