Jiménez was discovered 'dead' in his cell, which was a disturbing situation. Jiménez was found unresponsive and ruled dead by the prison's two on-duty doctors, who were later confirmed by a forensic doctor who examined his body.

After that, Jiménez was taken to a hospital mortuary where doctors prepared for an autopsy.

Snoring was heard from inside his body bag just hours before the autopsy was to begin. Snoring, to be precise.

'Forensic doctors began to hear noises coming from inside the bag,' according to an El Espaol report. Montoya was still alive. Quite the contrary.

The report continued, 'The forensic [pathologist] proceeded to open the bag and found the inmate still alive.'

Jiménez even had pen marks where incisions were supposed to be made. Yikes.

The prisoner was then transferred to a different hospital to heal, and his condition was said to be stable.

A spokesperson from the Spanish Prison Service said, 'I can't comment on what happened at the Institute of Legal Medicine but three doctors have seen clinical signs of death so it's still not clear at the moment exactly why this occurred.'

A police source explained, 'We got the original call asking us to attend the jail because an inmate had died and acted according to protocol,' meaning that Jiménez was taken 'away for an autopsy.’

'The second call that came in asking for police assistance in taking him to hospital and keeping watch over him while he was there for obvious security reasons came as a bit of a surprise,' they added.

While it is unclear what happened to Jiménez or why he was ruled dead, he had complained of feeling unwell that day, according to sources.

His body was stated to have hard evidence of cyanosis, discoloration of the skin caused by a lack of oxygen, as well as rigor mortis, a process that occurs as a person's body decays.

Officials speculated that the occurrence was caused by catalepsy, a condition in which the body goes into a seizure and loses consciousness/sensation.
