An Ohio resident has been banned from Uber after attacking Uber driver in a drunken, racist rage. After screaming racial slurs at the Chadian driver, he proceeded to attack the car and then fall on his face, injuring himself.
Ahmat Abdelkadre picked up Michael Winterman only to be subjected to racial abuse. The incident was triggered when Ahmat’s GPS stopped working and he asked Winterman to tell him his destination instead.
Winterman however refused to reveal his destination and threatened to call 911 instead.
Winterman who was intoxicated continued to get more and more enraged as the conversation continued.
"I hope to hell you get shot, ni****."
Winterman then fell on his face, bloodying his nose as he tried to exit the vehicle. He then tried to wipe off the blood on the interior of Ahmat’s vehicle.
"He just literally swiped it on my car -- inside my car, inside my steering wheel,"
Winterman then started attacking the vehicle.
As the situation escalated, Ahmat said, “Sir, you are intoxicated and you are cursing at me and I don't have to take you."
Ahmat also revealed that when the recording ended, Winterman said, “you are Black and I am white,”
In a press conference in conjunction with CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations), he revealed that his own Uber account had been suspended even though he had shared a 5-minute-long video of the incident.
Ahmat’s account has since been reinstated while Winterman has been banned from the system.
Uber has released this official statement;
"Violence and discrimination have no place on the Uber platform," the statement read. "We've been attempting to reach out to the driver to get more information since the incident was first reported to us last month. We are reactivating the driver's account and the rider has been banned from Uber."
