In one part of her book, she goes on to say how much she would cry and how she hated everything about herself. She also talked about her struggles with bulimia. She said she would get sad, then eat, then make herself throw up, then she would feel better. She got to a point where she would only eat if she were planning on throwing it right back up. It was her way of dealing with her depression. Thankfully she found a doctor to help her.

Sidibe is now working as one of the main characters on the show 'Empire.' She sums up the ending of her book talking about how she manages her mental health and her bulimia which she still insists has ever only been a tool to deal with her depression, not her weight.

“I have a nutritionist that I really like,” she revealed. “I haven’t felt like purposely going to throw up. For years, I have not felt that way. But if I ever do, I just have to remember to do the things that make me feel good as opposed to the things that make me feel bad.”

Now, Sidibe is conscientious about what she eats and exercises regularly. She documents all of this on her Instagram account where she has over 1 million followers. While her new lifestyle is contributing to her weight loss, she does not like attention being drawn to that fact.

Total strangers complimenting her seems to bother her the most. Sidibe says that it is her body and will always be her body, and everyone else has nothing to do with it.

Sidibe was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and subsequently had weight loss surgery to correct that. “It has taken me years to realize that what I was born with is all beautiful. I did not get this surgery to be beautiful. I did it so I can walk around comfortably in heels… I don’t want to be in pain every time I walk up a flight of stairs.”

She is now confident in her body but a little nervous about her next step. She hopes to just lose enough weight to be a little chubby but not skinny. She says that will make her very happy as her beauty does not come from a mirror.
