Ryan Reynolds is known for his sense of humor, but he’s shown a softer side by doing did something very special for a little boy with an inoperable brain tumor.

Daniel Downing was diagnosed with the terminal tumor earlier this month and Ryan granted one of his biggest wishes.
The young Marvel fan got a video call from Ryan and to say it lifted his spirits is an understatement.

The special moment really lifted Daniel’s spirits. “Daniel picked up the phone and Ryan asked if he knew who he was,” Stephanie, Daniel’s mom, told the Plymouth Herald.
“As soon as Daniel realized, he asked if he could FaceTime him and then he was very, very hyper,” she said.

Stephanie was so happy that Ryan was able to reach out to her son and admitted it was amazing to see him so happy.

“I’m so happy for Daniel – it’s something he wouldn’t normally have been able to do and he was so excited. He told all his friends and his teachers. It’s nice to see him so excited because he has been a bit down lately,” she explained.

The phone call was a big one for Daniel who also got to have a look at the set of Deadpool 2, where Ryan is currently filming.

Daniel’s family have set up a JustGiving page and Biffy Lynch posted a sweet update about the touching phone call on the page.

“So if you have a short weekend at home you should at least do something to make it memorable ..right? How’s about the best hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows?? Or how’s about a FaceTime call from your most favorite superhero, Deadpool, live from the set of Deadpool 2…Thank you Mr. Ryan Reynolds for putting a smile on a special boys face .. oh and his mummy was also fairly smiley. Thinking of you all as you start your week at the amazing Bristol Royal Hospital for Children,” the post read.

Daniel is currently receiving palliative treatment 200 miles away from home and the page was set up to help his family financially as they do everything to be close to him.

The initial amount they wanted to raise was around $10,000 but that’s been smashed and at the time of writing, over $27,000 has been raised.

Stephanie says regarding her son's diagnosis: "When I was told I just went numb. The words did not seem to sink in. It is still a bit of a shock and has not sunk in properly yet. I keep waiting for my alarm to go off and for it to be a crazy, horrible dream. But part of me knows it is real and I have got to go and take each day as it comes."

Stephanie further said that she is thankful for the support that her best friend Biffy has provided during all this time, "My best friend Biffy has been doing a lot for me. So many other friends have been fantastic and rallying around and saying nice words."

According to Downing family, Daniel has been given an ultimatum of nine months since his diagnosis but in this time they will try to do everything to make it last longer. Stephanie further added thanks to everyone who has supported her family at the time of need and said, "I am eternally grateful for all the support we have been given and want to say a massive thank you."
