In light of the SpongeBob SquarePants obsession that resulted in his arrest, police searching the flat of a robber joked that their suspect did not reside "in a pineapple under the sea."
Serial Robber Caught By Police Due To His Obsession With SpongeBob Pants
When you read crime stories, you'll notice that the criminals sometimes attempt to disguise themselves as someone else to avoid being caught.
One American man, however, strayed from the usual and, of course, intended to rob apartments while showing his affection for SpongeBob SquarePants.
Edward Price, also referred to by the locals as "Smacc Man," is a SpongeBob fan.
He was apprehended by police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on September 16 after he allegedly committed many break-ins at an apartment building.
The Tulsa Police Department reported five such robberies at the apartment complex since July in a Facebook post.
They saw that the suspect followed a consistent pattern, breaking down each apartment's door before robbing the residents of their devices, televisions, and weapons.
Surprisingly, the Krabby Patty recipe wasn't among the things Price had stolen.
Police noticed that the suspect was seen at a handful of these robberies sporting socks and shorts with a SpongeBob theme.
When the suspect placed the stolen goods on Facebook Marketplace, you could see the identical SpongeBob-themed shorts and socks in the backdrop of the photo, making it even easier for police to identify the suspect.
The Tulsa Police Department issued a search warrant for the suspect's apartment following this discovery.
The SpongeBob clothes were discovered by cops during that search in the man's dryer.
Detectives also discovered several TVs, cell phones, iPods, tablets, firearms, ammo, internet routers, and other devices that all looked to have been taken from the apartments.
Since then, several of the stolen things have been returned to their original owners, according to the local police.
"FYI, the suspect's apartment was not located in a pineapple beneath the sea," the Tulsa Police Department joked in a post on Facebook regarding the suspect's residence.
The "Smacc Man" was taken into custody on charges of second-degree burglary following a felony conviction, knowingly concealing stolen property, and using a weapon while committing a crime.
According to US TV station FOX 23, Price had previously been detained for burglaries. They wrote: "Price has been arrested for several burglaries in the past, but most of those charges were dismissed because of a witness failing to appear."
Police further stated that they do not believe Price acted alone and are asking the public for assistance in finding another man.
