An Apopka man was arrested after police said he left his father in a chair in filth for so long his skin began to rot. According to police, Jerry appeared malnourished, in pain, and smelled of rotting flesh and feces.
Son Charged With Neglect After Leaving His Father Sitting In Own Feces For Weeks

Scott Winkler, 47, was arrested and charged with neglect of an elderly or disabled adult with great harm.
Apopka police said they were called to a home on Mcgee Avenue by the Fire Department concerning the neglect of an elderly man.

When fire officials made it into the residence they found the elder Winkler sitting in a chair, and covered in feces and urine. Inside the home, police said they found a chair that was sinking in the center with a brown towel on top of it that appeared to have been sitting in for a long period of time.

Police said the towel was soaked in urine and fecal matter that spilled over onto the floor. Crews took him to the hospital where they found him malnourished and his skin rotting because he hadn’t been cleaned up, the affidavit said.

The victim was “clearly in pain” and may have died if police had not intervened, officers wrote. According to officers, the elder Winkler hadn't moved from the chair for 16 days.
Scott told officers his father refused to eat and would not tell him when the diaper he had to wear needed to be changed.

Police also found half eaten food around the house, dirty dishes, a broken stove and an empty refrigerator with dead bugs at the bottom of it.
Winkler was taken to the Orange County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
