She got hooked on steroids after trying to build her body and confidence but ended up turning herself into a man.
#1 She Started With Low Self Esteem
Low self-esteem and an unrealistic body image led this once thin, blonde, and shy girl to the extreme. She began taking dance lessons to improve her figure, which eventually led to the gym and a vigorous workout routine. She soon began gaining strength but became obsessed with building her upper body.
#2 She Is Diagnosed With Body Dysmorphia
Candice Armstrong, now 28, and a former London barkeep claims that her nightmare began two years ago when she joined a gym to improve her physique. Diagnosed with body dysmorphia, she would work out for three to four hours a day and was convinced her upper body was too slender, despite friends and family telling her she looked amazing.
#3 She Ordered The Steroid Trenbolone Online And Became Addicted
Her great biceps didn't seem like they were big enough, and when a gym friend suggested she try steroids, she accepted the offer and order her first shipment online. Within weeks, she developed an addiction to daily doses of the steroid Trenbolone.
#4 Trenbolone Is Illegal In Most Countries But Not The UK
In the United Kingdon, Trebolone is considered a class C drug with no penalty for personal use or possession, but in the US and Canada possession or use of trenbolone for humans is a violation of federal law. The steroid is manufactured to aid in the growth of cattle, but bodybuilders and athletes have been known to use the drug illicitly because they experience an increase in body mass more effectively than by weight training alone and because of its reputation as a fat-burning and bulking agent.
#5 She Began Growing Facial Hair And Her Voice Grew Deep
She says that she only started using the drug because she hated her body, but now things are a thousand times worse. It didn't take long for the side effects to kick in, and after 2 months she noticed that she was growing facial hair as well as having a severe problem with acne. But that was just the beginning of her horrific ordeal.
#6 She Is The Focus Of A Documentary On Steroid Addiction
Six months later, she had to up her steroid injections because she had a 'craving' to keep the intense feeling the drugs were giving her. Her body began to change dramatically as well.
Featured in a new documentary on steroid abuse, Candice says "I was getting a bit of facial hair, belly hair and my voice got deeper. My Âperiods stopped. But I just blocked out a lot of it. I shaved and tried to cover things up. It was gradual so it wasn't so much of a shock."
She added: "I used to get a lot of attention from men. Now very few people find me attractive. But I can't say I miss sex. I have no sex drive and I'm more insecure than ever."
#7 She Grew A Penis And Her Breasts Disappeared
The most shocking part of her story is that she grew a tiny penis which doctors say is most likely her enlarged clitoris and the 'foreskin' is the clitoral hood. However, she says "It's about an inch long and it's shaped like a little penis. It looks like a little penis, you can roll back the foreskin and everything."
Her breasts have shrunk also and now they just hang lifeless from her hugely overdeveloped pectoral muscles.
#8 Becoming A Man Wasn't What She Wanted
She began walking and talking like a man. Though she insists that becoming a male was not part of her long-term plan when she began the steroids, she is using it to her advantage and doing a male drag show for extra income. She dresses in men's clothing and uses the men's bathroom when out on the town. She says that the steroids were started to help her self-esteem, but now she feels even worse and there is no turning back.
#9 There's No Turning Back Now
Despite all of this, Candice still works out daily and is addicted to the drugs. She said it would not do much good to stop taking them since the doctors have told her that she would lose most of the muscle but would never lose the masculine qualities she has developed. Her voice would remain deep, her breasts would not develop normally, and her hair body hair would need to be surgically removed.
Her extreme condition is shocking and she is going through intensive psychotherapy for her depression and addiction, and she says "The thing with steroids is that it messes with your mind more than anything else."
