Stunning Yet Haunting Images Of Abandoned Ships

#1 Costa Concordia

In the city of Giglio, Italy lies a luxury ship which was once used as a vacation destination. In 2012 it capsized and sank after sailing to close to the shore of Italy.

The closest city to Antartica is Ushuaia, and is where rescue boat St. Christopher was sent to help salvage material from other sunken ships in the area. Ironically it was beached itself, and had to be abandoned by the rescue workers.

#3 Gramvousa, Crete, Greece

In 1967 ‘The Dimitrios' ship anchored at the South of the islet of Imeri Gramvousa, but was quickly flooded after the anchor snapped. The ship is a great tourist attraction now!

#4 Bay of Praia, Cape Verde, Africa

Spanish Freight ship Cabo de Santa Maria was capsized in 1968, and is stuck in this very position in 2016. The locals took items the ship was carrying, but the crew was not hurt!

#5 Quail Island, New Zealand

Quail Island is home to remains of ‘The Darra' which was first built way back in 1865! It became an Australian immigrant form of transportation two years later, but was set on fire in 1899. This is all that is left of the once important ship!

#6 Assalama Ferry

A Moroccan ship was built in 2008, with the purpose of being a ferry between Tarfaya and Puerto del Rosario. But while doing its job three times a week, the ferry hit a sandbar and was never able to be recovered.

#7 Shipwreck Beach

8 miles of rocky beach has seen numerous shipwrecks lies in the city of Kaiolohia. This is where you will still see a ship from the 1940's which pops from miles away thanks to its bright colors!
