Everyone can agree that we need to conserve our planet the best that we can before it is too late. Here are some tips on how you can make the world a slightly better place for future generations. Most of these are so simple that there is no real reason why most people do not already do these things anyway.
Super Easy Ways To Go Green At Work With Little Effort
#1 Recycle
You probably already know this or even do this, but it is very easy to get lazy about recycling. The biggest thing is that most people do not know what is and is not recyclable or just plain do not recycle enough.
Educate yourself on what is and is not recyclable, and be sure to make a more conscious effort to do it properly. And, if your office does not offer recycling options, ask that it can be implemented. Chances are your boss will be happy to do it.
#2 Bike, Walk, or Carpool to Work
Transportation exhaust accounts for a large amount of all greenhouse gas emissions. Cars alone contribute to a fifth of the total USA emissions. So, if it is a nice day out and you are close enough, break out that bike or lace up them walking shoes. If that is not an option, sharing rides with co-workers is the next best thing.
#3 Get Some Tupperware
Using reusable containers for your lunch and bringing lunch from home is always the environmentally friendly thing to do.
#4 Scratch Paper
The use of scratch paper for your notes is always useful. Be sure to use both sides and tear off parts you are done with, so you do not get confused over your notes.
#5 Go Paperless
Nowadays, everything is paperless from your home bills to in house work memos. If you have not gone paperless in your office, perhaps it is time to get your boss up to date on the times.
#6 No More Plastic Utensils
Yes, most plastic utensils are recyclable, but what about when you do not recycle or if you get a set that is not recyclable? It is just as easy to bring your own silverware and wash it after each use.
#7 Bring Your Own Mug
Most coffee shops and quick stop shops allow the use of your own refillable cup, so why not bring one from home. Some places even offer a discount for bringing your own mug.
#8 Use Helpful Reminders
Placing little signs reminding yourself and your coworkers to be more conscientious can be a huge help to the environment. Little signs like the one above or emailing your coworkers on how to save on paper by printing double sided pages are just a couple things that will keep your office on track to cutting down its carbon footprint.
#9 Power Down
You may or may not know this, but if your phone charger is plugged in, even if it is not charging your phone, it is still using electricity. In fact, many of your regular office devices and appliances still use a small amount of power if they are plugged in but not in use. Start unplugging to save electricity and a few bucks off of your power bill.
#10 Add Some Plant
Putting a small plant on your desk not only makes your desk look better, but it will also absorb pollutants while emitting oxygen which will in turn make you more productive.
#11 Be Mindful of Your Habits
In conclusion, just be mindful of what your actions are doing to the environment. What you do today will effect the future of this planet and the next generation of our children and their children.
