Terrified Passengers Left 'Choking' For 25 Minutes As Plane Fills With Smoke

After smoke filled an airplane cabin, frightened passengers were left struggling to breathe for 25 minutes.

The shocking events were caught on camera inside the aircraft after it had left the popular Indian beach destination of Goa.

A woman can be heard constantly saying "bend down, stay down" while also using a torch to help passengers aboard SpiceJet flight SG 3735 while loud smoke alarm beeps can be heard in the clip.

One of the passengers, Vivek Vishal, claimed: "SpiceJet risks people’s lives. We were choking for 25 minutes and even oxygen masks didn’t deploy. Strict action should be taken against such a negligent airline."

A man can be heard speaking on the phone as several ambulances are seen at the heavily rained scene.

Crew members standing at the side of the runway with wheelchairs in anticipation of assistance may be seen wearing hi-vis jackets.

At least 86 passengers were reportedly on board the airplane when it was forced to make a full emergency landing because of a problem.

Following the landing in Hyderabad, India, when the pilot informed air traffic control about the situation, local accounts state that passengers were quickly evacuated.

In an effort to stop any more incidents, the ground crew was asked to take all necessary precautions.

A spokesman for the airline has denied accusations that employees on board instructed passengers to "start praying" as a result of the frightening ordeal.

But another passenger, Srikanth Mulupala, alleged: "The crew members told us to pray to God and pray for our families – it was mortifying. Many of my co-passengers panicked and started shrieking."

The unidentified passenger further alleges that crew members took his phone and made another passenger delete any images or video of the incident.

SpiceJet claimed that the onboard air conditioning system was to blame for the smoke and that their crew handled the incident in accordance with protocol.

Another passenger, known as cAnil P in Indian media, asserts that something went wrong in the bathroom: "We heard the crew talk in hushed tones after something happened and, in another 20-odd minutes, the smoke was all around us.”

"We felt like choking. However, the lights were turned on and the crew asked us not to leave our seats and stop talking."

The airline is already under investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for eight recent incidents involving aircraft.

The DGCA has now increased the 50% capacity limit for SpiceJet flights.
