The world has become a dangerous place, so walking your children to and from school has become a necessity. So many things can go wrong if you don't. They could be getting picked on by bullies, hit by a car, or even worse, kidnapped. When a family lives too close to the school to ride a bus, that is when they are more likely to be walked to and from by a parent.

Bear Branch Elementary School in Magnolia, Texas does not want the children to be walked to and from school. They have gone so far as to threaten to arrest the parents who disobey this rule.

This is Holly Ray. She is the schools principal who says that kids should only be picked up and dropped off by bus or car. The school now prohibits parents from getting out of their cars when picking up and dropping off.

She says that parents need to stay in the pickup/drop-off lane with their cars and stay inside of them. The parents are not allowed to park their car in the lot and walk up to pick up or drop off their children. She wants the children to leave and arrive on their own.

In an attempt to make the pickup/drop-off line move faster, Ray has even removed the bike racks. Students are no longer allowed to ride their bikes to school. Parents had complained in the past that the car line can take up to an hour.

Parents are not happy with the new rules and have signed a petition against them. However, Ray has been given approval from the school district. Because of these new rules, the backlash is going to affect the school in general. Since the school announced that parents who do not follow the new guidelines will be arrested, teachers have quit working for this school. Parents are also pulling their kids out of the school.

A lot of the parents complained that they live too close to the school, so using their cars to pick up and drop off their children just does not make sense. Others have said that they also enjoy the exercise that they get from walking to and from the school.

Ray has ignored everyone's issues with the new rule. In a show of strength, she has arranged for police to be on scene during pickup and drop off hours. The police are under orders to arrest parents who break the rules.

No arrests have been made so far. Parents have simply removed their children from the school to avoid any legal issues. What do you think about what Ray is doing with her school?
