The Best Essential Oils To Lose Weight
For thousands of years, essential oils have been used to destress the mind and heal the body. Using essential oils can help those who have a low metabolic rate, digestive problems, mood disorders, sweets and carb cravings, and lack of motivation.
Studies reveal that one of the key factors that lead to weight gain is psychological stress. People tend to indulge in “emotional eating” when they are stressed out. The aroma of the essential oils activates the centers in the brain that help to uplift the mood, lower stress, normalize blood pressure and heart rate, increase attention and promote a sense of motivation and pleasure.

Everyone wants to lose weight and look their best but wanting it and doing it are certainly two different things.
Aromatherapy works by triggering certain areas of the brain, which in turn tell the body to feel peaceful, sleepy, energized, or even full. Ever smell something cooking, something that was absolutely mouthwatering that made you feel hungry, even if you had just eaten? Smells have a very strong impact on our body so we can use them to stimulate our appetite, or we can use them to quell our appetite.
Some essential oils can also be taken internally to help improve energy levels, lessen the appearance of cellulite, and help dissolve fat.
Bellow are best essential oils for losing weight, curbing those cravings, and even for helping to lessen the appearance of cellulite while you soak in the tub!
#2 Fennel
Long celebrated as a digestive aid and appetite suppressant, the licorice-like aroma of fennel could also work on your waistline. One study found that drinking fennel tea decreases hunger, increases feelings of fullness, and means less food consumed. “Fennel essential oil can be diluted in a carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, or evening primrose and rubbed over the abdomen in a clockwise motion to help the gastrointestinal tract and reduce flatulence,” says Gagnon, who uses this method in addition to the herbal tea to help with digestion. To dilute, use about 10 drops of fennel essential oil to 1 ounce of a carrier oil.
#3 Vanilla
Although you might think that the scent of vanilla would remind you of cookies and make you hungry, but the opposite appears to be true.
One study performed in England used different scents, as well as a placebo, to see which one, if any, would affect the appetite.
Researchers at St. George’s Hospital found that those who were given vanilla scented skin patches lost, on average, 4.5 pounds and stated that they had significant changes in appetite. Researchers noted that these subjects cut their intake of sugary treats and chocolate by as much as half.
#4 Cinnamon Oil
Another essential oil to support weight loss is cinnamon oil. Cinnamon oil has been shown time and time again to help regulate blood glucose levels and something in your body called GTF, glucose tolerance factor. For that reason, cinnamon oil is also fantastic for anybody with diabetes.
It helps balance blood sugar, which long-term will help with weight loss and help reduce those cravings for sugar. Unstable blood sugar can lead to overeating, low energy and weight gain, but adding cinnamon oil to fruit, tea, oats, baked goods or smoothies helps slow the rate at which glucose is released into the blood.
#5 Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon also contains the fat-dissolving powers of limonene. Supporting the findings of the aforementioned grapefruit oil study, researchers found that lemon oil used in conjunction with grapefruit oil increased lipolysis.
As a mood booster, lemon oil is a particularly powerful treatment for alleviating negative feelings. It also raises norepinephrine levels, a stress hormone and neurotransmitter that is responsible for the fight-or-flight mechanism. Consequently, norepinephrine increases oxygen in the brain for better cognitive function and ramps up heart rate and blood flow which allows muscles to work faster and better.
#6 Lavender Oil
This lovely scented oil promotes a feeling of calm, removes nervous exhaustion, calms restlessness, and increases mental activity.
When you're feeling zen, it's easier to get into the right frame of mind for focusing on your weight and overall health. "Lavender is great for digestion, sleep, and even pain relief," says Morse. "Put two drops on the wrists twice a day to support the adrenals or apply to the soles of the feet before bedtime."
#7 Ginger essential oil
One of the most important benefits of ginger essential oil is its ability to support digestion and the absorption of nutrients. By improving the absorption of the vitamins and minerals that you're consuming, ginger oil is supporting the body's cellular energy and, in effect, promoting weight loss. A key compound in ginger oil, called gingerol, also effectively reduces inflammation in the body and possesses antioxidant activity. This process naturally reduces pain and swelling, which helps keep you active and burning more calories.
Add one to two drops of ginger essential oil to tea or a green smoothie for the best results. You can also diffuse ginger at home or work, inhale the oil directly from the bottle or apply two to three drops topically to the stomach area after eating.
#8 Cardamom
Indicated in traditional and folk uses for weight control, one suspected reason behind this may be cardamom's gastroprotective effects. As a digestive oil, cardamom has been known to protect the stomach against ulcers and damage.
Weight loss and control begins and ends in the stomach, not only what you eat but the way your body uses it. Damage in the stomach and the gut can put a damper on even the best diet. Take care of your gut and it will take care of you!
#9 Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint works wonders to soothe an upset stomach and improves your digestive health. It gives you a full feeling after a meal, stops cravings, and gives you more energy.
Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Institute of Chicago found that lemon and peppermint EO are the most powerful scents to help control appetite and assist in weight loss.
