When you see these food items on the shelves in the grocery store, it might be a good idea to just keep on rolling by. In fact. it's best that you avoid most of them completely if you want to stay healthy.
#1 Spinach
Spinach is constantly being recalled in the supermarket, as naturally grown items are more prone to contracting infections and hazardous diseases. But spinach is not the only veggie to be weary of, as most bagged lettuce and greens have had numerous recalls due to improper handling and storage. Most recently, 11 people were hospitalized after eating store bought Dole spinach which were linked to the listeria outbreak and last year thousands of bagged salad mix veggies were recalled for the cyclospora infections under Chiquita Brands, Fresh Express, and Dole labels.
#2 Tuna And Seafood
Seafood and all fish absorb mercury amongst other chemicals while swimming in the sea, and you consume that same amount when you eat them because once those chemicals are in the fish they are there forever. Mercury moves through your body and goes to your brain, which has been reported to cause people to go insane if consumed on a regular basis. The FDA says all children and pregnant women should avoid tuna completely while it says that others should limit consumption to once per week.
#3 Potatoes
It is a less commonly known fact that potatoes produce compounds called glycoalkaloids that have been shown to be toxic to both humans and to animals. At high enough levels the glycoalkaloid found in potatoes known as solanine can cause irritation of the gastrointestinal tract, impairment of the nervous system, diarrhea, headaches, cramping or even put you in a coma or DEATH! Neurological signs can include ataxia, convulsions, coma, muscle weakness, and involuntary urination. Glycoalkaloids grow in the stems and sprouts of potatoes.
#4 Raw Honey
You may think you're going with the healthier option when purchasing raw honey, but this tasty treat actually contains grayanotoxin. Nausea, weakness, dizziness, vomiting, and sweating can all occur when you consume too much. The FDA warns that any honey products be kept away from children, and if consumed in large amounts by adults it can hazardous to the human nervous system. However, raw honey and organic honey are better for you, if you desire the taste for honey at all, than the syrup type that is imitation and often labeled as 'pure honey' and contains less than 1% of real honey. That honey, often labeled as 'pure honey' is nothing but sweeteners.
#5 Fruit
Prussic acid is a type of hydrogen cyanide found in cherries, apples, peaches and apricots. So you might want to stop eating fruit altogether. The enormous amount of toxic chemicals sprayed on the fruits sold in grocery stores is a death sentence. Most all of the fruit is shipped in from other parts of the world where there are no regulations on chemicals, preservatives, or pesticides, which means the fruit is practically not even fruit by the time it hits your grocery. Ever wonder why the fruit has no flavor like it used to? It was probably grown and shipped from Asia weeks ago and is not "Fresh Fruit" like the signs in the market say.
#6 Beef
It's no secret that meat can also be easily recalled, as animals which are slaughtered can contract numerous diseases which are transmitted through their meat. Beef specifically can contain E.Coli, which can cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal cramps within two days. Every few months the FDA issues a recall on beef for some reason, and just earlier this year, a dusty little slaughterhouse in Northern California was ground zero for one of the biggest meat recalls in years. They purchased diseased cattle and sold in throughout the country causing widespread E.Coli and salmonella disease.
#7 Margarine
Margarine is not the healthier alternative to butter many believed it to be, in fact, it has just as many health risks. Each tablespoon of margarine or oil-based substitutes may contain over 100 calories. Butter is actually a great source of healthy saturated fats, fat-soluble vitamins, and other vitamins. Vegetable-oil-based margarines are all made with rapeseed oil, which contains high amounts of the toxic erucic acid, which is poisonous to the body. It is commonly genetically modified and treated with high levels of pesticides.
