‘The Vampire Diaries’ Top 9 Cast Members Season 1 To Season 6

‘The Vampire Diaries' started in 2009 and the six seasons have shown us the many supernatural beings and the lives that they lead. The popularity of the show also inspired a spin-off ‘The Originals', and the parent show itself is still going strong. Here are our favourite characters from the show and how they have changed over the span of six years.

1. Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) Season 1

Elena is the one who has really progressed on the show. We saw her as a shy girl in Season 1 coming to terms with the fact that her beau is a vampire. Season 3 saw her transforming into one, after much avoidance. And the subsequent seasons, showed us her vampire side. The fact that she can live on till eternity has even made her more focused to become a doctor.

2. Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) Season 1

Season 1 saw Stefan going all out to impress Elena Gilbert. Post the initial euphoria, he lost Elena, lost his humanity also to gain it back later. Now, we see sparks flying between Caroline and him.

3) Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) Season 1

Damon was the bad boy with Greek God looks. There was always something that he had for Elena which was quite palpable. Season 6 has finally got them together.

4) Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) Season 1

The pilot episode saw Matt and Elena's breakup that left him heartbroken. However, they remained friends till the time Matt gets killed. He is brought to life again and again, and finally in Season 6 he confesses his hatred for vampires and is no longer willing to take her blood for his wound healing. He is also a cop-in-training, apart from the above mentioned storyline.

5) Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) Season 1

From the loner kid to the vampire hunter. What a transformation! He too has had his share of killings and being brought back to life. There was also a time when he could see the ghosts of his deceased girlfriends, and this is when he realizes his penchant to become a vampire hunter. At this point on the show, he is living in Santa Fe, as he wants to move on with life.

6) Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) Season 1

Tyler is a cop-in-training like Matt, and is slowly exploring his werewolf gene. His relationship with Caroline consisted of a major part of his role in the series, but sadly, that is also now over.

7) Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) Season 1

Season 1 Caroline was the one hiding her love bites with all kinds of scarves. Season 2 saw her progressing to become a vampire. Season 6 saw her going a step further in ‘Let Her Go' where she turns off her humanity switch, and we see a different Caroline, one who can kill!

8) Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) Season 1

Bonnie was new to being a witch in the Season 1 of the series. Later, she died, came back as a ghost to Jeremy, then got her life back and then brought Jeremy back to life and so on. She had to go through a lot in all these seasons especially the time when she got stuck in the prison world with Kai, a witch who actually tortured her. We feel bad for Bonnie.

9) Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis) Season 1

Alaric was seen in Season 1 as a person who is on a lookout for his wife only to find out later that she left him to become a vampire. Alaric too then turns into a vampire and then a ghost and comes back from the dead. Alaric in the subsequent seasons became quite settled with a teaching job and a baby arriving.
