There are a ton of movies that lend to fan theories. Everyone always tries to fill in the blanks to a film's mystery with their own take on what is really going on. There are even a ton of internet forums, like Reddit, that allow people to pick apart every single detail of a movie until they think they have found something else that no one else has noticed.
While some of these theories may end up being right, there is a chance that they will totally ruin the way you view some of your favorite films. Here are some of the most off the wall theories about some of the most popular movies of our time. Just be prepared because you may never see these movies the same way ever again.
#1 Fast and the Furious
So, supposedly, Vin Diesel is a huge Dungeons and Dragons fan and that is how he visualizes these films. Each new film has to level up from the last film. As each movie progresses, the cars get sicker and the characters develop stronger skills that they did not have in the previous movies.
#2 The Witch
This particular theory suggests that the goat and the witch, who only appear when Thomasine is asleep, are not real. Instead, they are hallucinations that the family has that could be a result of food poisoning. It even goes further to guess that Caleb's encounter with the witch was a result of his hypothermia and the babies were taken by wild wolves.
#3 The Shining
In order to comprehend this particular theory, we must understand that a big population of the world believes that the moon landing was faked and produced by Stanley Kubrick. This theory says that The Shining, a Kubrick film, contains an apology for the fake moon landing when Danny finds room 237 (a reference to the distance thought to be between the Earth and moon which is 237,000 miles). It goes on to say that when Danny stands up, he is “launching” toward the moon, here represented by Room 237.
FYI... the actual distance between the Earth and moon is 238,900 miles.
#4 Signs
This film portrays a family who is under attack from an alien invasion. The theory is that they were not aliens but instead demons. This comes from when Mel Gibson's character talks about his daughter's birth as holy. Since she leaves half-full glasses of water around the house, theorists say it is because she is blessed that she leaves blessed holy water around the house which eventually was the undoing of the demons/aliens. I mean you do fight off demons with holy water. There has never been any other movie that people fight off aliens with water, now is there?
Seems legit.
#5 Mad Max: Fury Road
The theory on this movie is of Biblical proportion. The theorist states that Max is one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse (Death) and the other three horsemen would be Immortan Joe (Pestilence), Bullet Farmer (War), and the People Eater (Famine).
#6 Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
This theory states that Ferris' best friend Cameron actually represent Ferris and Cameron. It is basically stating that Cameron suffers from multiple personality disorder, much like Tyler Durden in the movie Fight Club, saying that he is actually imagining himself as Ferris.
We can see how, in the movie, Ferris seems to always know what Cameron is about to say or do and is constantly trying to bring out his fun side. This theory could be completely legit.
#7 The Dark Knight
One of the biggest mysteries from this movie is the Joker's real backstory. While he explains his scars away with stories of abuse from his father and even doing some damage to himself by his own hand, one theorist believes he is a veteran who is scarred from war. That would totally explain his tactical skills and his familiarity with an RGP. We think that being a war veteran as the reason for his tortured psyche is a fascinating story that we can get behind.
#8 Back To The Future
We all know this is probably by far everyone's favorite time travel movie series, some believe that it has a dark side. This theorist states that Doc Brown is actually suicidal which is evident when he stands in the way of the speeding DeLorean. He seemed to have plenty of time to get out of the way, but he just appeared to have no desire to do so. He was saved at the very last moment, but it seems like the possibility of dying just does not phase him.
#9 E.T.
We all saw Yoda make an appearance in the E.T. movie. E.T. even made an appearance in one of the Star Wars prequels. The theory is that E.T. is, in fact, a Jedi!
#10 Deadpool
This one might be a little hard to follow, but in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Deadpool’s head is cut off. In X-Men: The Last Stand, Jean Grey, and Cyclops are both killed, but when the timeline is reset in X-Men: Days of Future Past, they’re back. One theory says that Deadpool has also been resurrected, and that’s the version we’re seeing in his 2016 stand-alone film.
#11 Wizard of Oz
We all noticed in the Wizard of Oz that all of the characters from Kansas were represented in her visit to Oz. Everyone but her, so the theory is that since Dorothy's house crushed the Wicked Witch of the East when she arrived that is who she actually becomes in Oz.
#12 The Big Lebowski
This theory states that Donny is a figment of Walter's imagination. The Dude doesn't really interact with him, and some seem to believe that Donny could be one of Walter's war buddies who died in Vietnam.
