#1 The kitchen is your personal armory.

Someone just broke in? Run to the kitchen. Why? Because there are weapons that you can use to defend yourself. You know where your sharpest knives are but I bet the intruder doesn't.

#2 Pressure points are amazing.

If you know where to hit someone to do the most damage you can easily escape almost any situation. Study the natural weak points and learn them well.

#3 Lose your wallet.

If you're being mugged, instead of handing over your wallet, throw it as far as you can. The mugger will likely want the money more than you so that will give you a chance to run.

#4 Stuck in an elevator with someone dangerous?

Press every button possible. Doing so will make it more likely that your assailant will be caught in the act if the doors open at every floor.

#5 Be smart if you are being followed.

If you notice someone is following you, head for a crowded location. The more witnesses the better. If you are being followed in your car just head for the local police station.

#6 Yelling is good.

Instead of carrying a whistle just yell loudly for help or 911. These screams will alert people to the fact that there is an emergency taking place.

#7 Make the right fashion choices.

Wear jewelry that can be used as a weapon if needed. Just take this ring for example. I bet it would hurt like hell to get hit by something like that.

#8 Ponytails are not your friend.

Let your hair down. It's much harder to grab your hair if it's free flowing than if it's in a ponytail.

#9 Jerk their ear.

Treat your attacker like a bad child and grab them by the ear. Ears are super sensitive and causing sudden pain could give you just the chance you need to escape.

#10 Kneecap a bitch.

The quickest way to take someone down is to kick them square in the kneecaps. Not only will it hurt them, they will almost instantly drop and be hobbled when trying to pursue you.

#11 Learn Self-Defense.

All of these tips are pretty useful but none of them beat actually knowing how to defend yourself. Take the time to learn how to put the hurt on someone should you ever need to. Better to be prepared.

#12 Learn how to escape zip ties.

This handy video will help you learn how to free yourself should someone restrain you with zip ties.

#13 If you're being kidnapped, toss all your belongings.

If you're being forced into a vehicle against your will one of the best things you can do is drop as much of your stuff as possible. Anything other than your cell-phone. The more evidence left behind, the better.

#14 Don't stand still.

To quote Muhammad Ali "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee." If you keep moving around you make yourself a hard target. The more active you are, the harder you are to catch which will give you better opportunities to make a move.

#15 Your head is a weapon!

A nice headbutt can work wonders in a situation where you can't use your hands. Aim for your attacker's nose and you can seriously mess them up allowing you to escape.

If you ever find yourself in a bad situation, try these tips. Let's hope you never actually need them.
