1 – 1961 U.S. Figure Skating Team

The last thing on the minds of the 1961 U.S. Figure Skating team before they hopped on a flight to the World Figure Skating Championship in Belgium was the plane going down. Sadly, before they even stepped foot on Belgian soil the plane crashed when trying to land and everyone on board perished.

2 – Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 182

Looking at this picture, you can tell the Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 182 was in distress, in 1978. Although things look bad, there was the potential for the plane to land. Unfortunately, for the 139 passengers on board, Flight 182 collided with another plane over San Diego and no one survived.

3 – Robin Williams

One of the biggest losses in recent years with respect to celebrities taken too soon was that of Robin Williams. In this picture a happy fan gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to take a photo with the legendary comedian. It is the last image of Robin with a fan, as he would end up taking his life.

4 – Paul Walker

Paul Walker, famous for his role in the Fast and Furious movie franchise was captured getting into a car. There is nothing really spectacular about the picture, except both the car and Paul look great. The truth is, this is a picture of him getting into the very car that would take his life later that day.

5 – James Dean

In 1955, Famous bad boy, James Dean, was at the gas station filling his Porsche with gas when someone snapped his picture. The photographer undoubtedly thrilled to snap the photo had no idea that later that day, James Dean would be involved in a car accident in that very car that would take his life.

6 – Columbine High School

Students attending Columbine High School went to school that day anticipating the same routine, lectures, tests, homework, and time spent with friends. Little did they know that, for some of them, it would be their last day alive. In the photograph of the school's cafeteria, thanks to a warning by teacher, William "Dave" Sanders, hundreds of students survived the massacre.

7 – Notorious B.I.G.

Back in the day, Notorious B.I.G. was one of the most popular rappers out there. While attending a party together, Notorious B.I.G. and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs stopped to take a photo. Shortly after, when leaving the party, B.I.G. lost his life in a drive-by shooting.

8 – George Mallory and Sandy Irvine

Climbing Mount Everest has been a challenge many people have undertaken through the years. Back in 1924, George Mallory and Sandy Irvine made their attempts at climbing the mountain. The following is a picture of the two of them at their base camp. They braved the weather and deadly conditions that comes with climbing the mountain never to return.

9 – Hot Air Balloon Tragedy

A hot air balloon ride is an amazing experience for those fortunate enough to have the opportunity. During one hot air balloon ride in New Zealand, tragedy struck when a hot air balloon went off course and ended up in some power lines. Tragically, the 11 passengers perished when the hot air balloon burst into flames.

10 – Air France Flight 4590

Air France Flight 4590 was set to be a routine flight from Paris to New York City. As the photo clearly shows, the plane unexpectedly caught on fire. The nine crew members and 100 passengers died when the plane crashed into a hotel minutes later.

11 – Hally Family Vacation

The Hally family boarded Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 ready for the vacation of a lifetime. The photo shows the unsuspecting family minutes before it was shot down over the Ukraine. The Hally family, along with the rest of the 298 passengers, perished when the plane crashed.

12 – President John F. Kennedy

President John F. Kennedy had an all too brief term in office as a direct result of his assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald. The picture below shows a happy President Kennedy with his wife Jacqueline "Jackie," Kennedy. The photo captures the happy couple only seconds before the fatal shooting that took place in Dallas, Texas in 1963.

13 – Unidentified Man on 9/11

One might think this image of a man jumping from the top of a tall building was a stunt man in a movie. The reality is, this unidentified man opted to jump to certain death from one of the two towers on 9/11 instead of facing the horrors inside the buildings.

14 – Robert Overacker

Well-meaning Robert Overacker made the decision to raise awareness for the homeless. His idea on how to raise awareness was to Jet Ski over Niagara Falls. The photo shows him going over the age before falling to his death when his parachute malfunctioned.

15 – Country Legend, Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash was a country legend. In this photo, he was doing what he loved the most, performing. The photo would prove to be a documentation of his final performance. The legend died in September of 2003.
