Now don't go getting your panties in a bunch when you see some of your classic favorites on this list. Had these movies not been made when they were and instead were made nowadays, people would be in an uproar. While we would never think twice about seeing them as anything other than funny, if they were made today and not back then, they would not make it in this politically correct world that we currently live in. They would be considered offensive or just plain unacceptable.
These Seven Movies Just Would Not Fly In Our Current Politically Correct World
Breakfast at Tiffany's
This is a classic movie that most of us love. This issue is Mickey Rooney is a white man playing an Asian character. He has buck teeth and fake accent. The people who made this film were clearly not even trying to be the least bit politically correct.
Ghostbusters
This movie contains just about everything that people would freak out about today. The cast is 75% male, Venkman asks an elderly woman if she is menstruating, there is attempted date rape (Venkman carries 300ccs of Thorazine around with him), sexism towards the elderly, sexist language, and we are pretty sure that they are solely responsible for global warming. The remake of the movie turned the scales when women took over the business.
Pretty Woman
This movie tells women that is okay to accept payment for sex and it is okay for a man to pay for sex as long as he is filthy rich. In the movie, he pays her more and more for her time before making her his girlfriend. He also tells her how to dress and how to speak. There would be protests if this kind of movie was made in our current times.
White Chicks
The plot of this movie just would not fly nowadays. Not only do they test the limits of race and gender, but there is a bit of date rapey-ness and homophobia to make matters worse.
Revenge of the Nerds
This movie would definitely be a no-go during our current times. Not only do these guys spy on and photograph nude sorority girls and pass around the photos, but one of them actually impersonates one girl's boyfriend in order to trick her into having sex with him.
Mr. Mom
We live in an age where there is both maternity and paternity leave. Stay-at-home dads are more common than they were back then. We do not think that too many people these days would take kindly to a movie like this as the dad loses his job and becomes a full time "mother". It is full of sexism that just would not fly in today's world.
Crocodile Dundee
This movie would not make it today because of the transphobic abuse. In the movie, Mick Dundee goes to New York and encounters a trans woman in a bar. He ends up grabbing her by the crotch to be sure and does it again later with another woman. That would definitely not fly today.
So, what are your thoughts? Do you think that we just forgot how to take a joke? Or, do you think these movies would be better off if we just forgot all about them?
