Things That Were Cool Until Everybody Started Doing Them

#1 Craft Beer

It started out simply enough, people made their own flavors in their basement or garages. But then, people. It wasn't enough to just let Dad do his own thing, before long everyone, including big beer companies, got into the act, and now it's just a bunch of flavored crap.

#2 Memes

Remember when nobody ever put stupid sayings on random pictures and shared them with the world? Pepperidge Farms remembers. Admit it, you still love the funny ones but they are getting on your nerves just a bit. Tell grandma to stop sending out so many 'meemees'.

#3 Zombie Movies

At first, they were novel, even scary. They spawned an entire culture. And nowthey're all the same. Every type of zombie or man-eating undead monster has been done before. Hollywood can shelve the next batch of these and look for something different already!

#4 DJ-ing

Can anyone pinpoint the exact time when this actually became a thing? An occupation? It's hard to believe that only a few short years ago we all had to actually find our own records and put them on the spindle and drop the needle down to play the song if we wanted to hear music. It became irritating when dumbasses started making celebs out of music spinners and even giving them record deals. Give it up, we all have iTunes now!

#5 Reality TV

It began with good intentions but somewhere between The Real World and The Jersey Shore something wicked happened. It was cool to tune in to see Puck freak out every week, but after 60 seasons of people stuck in a remote jungle, we've all had enough 'reality' to last a lifetime. Oh, crap. While I was writing this I missed keeping up with Miss Kim.

#6 The Internet

You used to have to be really smart to access it. These days, all it takes is a troll with a cell phone. The best part about the access now is that you don't have to tie up your only phone line while AOL connects through your modem. Progress is cool.

#7 Storage Auctions

Thanks to reality TV, you're definitely not going to get the deals you used to. The same can be said for things at the pawn shop. Everybody wants to get rich from doing nothing.

#8 Bluetooth

They used to be really useful until every single wannabe-rich-guy started yelling into their earpieces in the checkout line. Now having a Bluetooth makes you look pretentious and just a little bit out of step with the times.

#9 Hipster

Being a hipster was pretty hipster at first. Now nobody really knows what being a hipster even means. Guess it's time to shave that scruffy beard and go back to work, eh?

#10 Clickbait

It was cool for a while. Then something crazy happened!! You won't believe what it was... and you'll never believe how it ends!

#11 Thrift Shops

Thanks, Macklemore. If you still want to get the good deals, go to rich neighborhoods where people donate but don't shop. It's amazing what you can find.

#12 Social Media

The concept was good, until "social media expert" became an actual job description. Anyone sitting on their ass all day using Facebook is an expert. There's nothing novel about it any longer.

#13 Black Friday

Remember getting up early to go out for a bargain that you were sure to leave the store with? Those days are long gone. It's a free-for-all! It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. And people usually get hurt.

#14 Facebook

Unfortunately, gone are the days when you needed a .edu email address. They let anybody on there. Really.

#15 YouTube

This was cool. For a while. Then they began getting paid to show videos and everyone got into the act. Ever since "YouTuber" became a legitimate job description things haven't been quite the same, and since we're at it, WTF is "America's Funniest Home Videos" still doing on TV?

#16 Apps

It used to be that people with good ideas made apps. Now, people with ideas make apps. There's a big difference!

#17 Remote Controlled Planes

A decade ago nobody cared what you did with your model airplane. Thanks to drones, though, things got regulated really quickly. Today the government virtually wants you to have a freakin' pilots licence to operate this toy. Not cool man, not cool at all.

#18 Climbing Mount Everest

Since so many people are doing it these days, there are long lines at the summit. The bad part? The summit is in something called the death zone. Oxygen here is minimal, and you can only survive for so long. So yeah, people die.
