This Bride Thought She Was Only Nervous. Soon After? She Was Hospitalized
Many women start dreaming of their perfect wedding when they are very young. They envision themselves walking down the aisle in a beautiful white gown, saying their "I dos," and then celebrating with a tall white wedding cake accented with pink flowers and a bride-and-groom figurine topper.
It’s supposed to be your day, and it’s supposed to be perfect.
But that wasn’t the case for one bride. After making it down the aisle and saying her vows, she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. "In sickness and in health" took a literal meaning.
#1 Jill Hadad Hawkins woke up on her wedding day feeling that something was off.
She assumed that it was just nerves, so she shrugged it off and got ready for her big day. As the day progressed, she started to feel more ill. What was supposed to be the happiest day of her life would turn out to be one of the scariest.
#2 Hawkins was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis as a teenager.
The inflammatory bowel disease causes inflammation and sores in the large intestine. The condition can cause extreme discomfort in the stomach area and can lead to life-threatening complications.
#3 "There was no way in my mind that this was all happening again," Hawkins told WCVB 5 News.
She made it up the aisle to say her vows, took some photos with her wedding party, and then couldn't take it anymore.
"I was just so sick," she said. .
#4 An ambulance was called and she was rushed to a hospital.
She was then quickly transferred to Tufts Medical Center for emergency surgery. Hawkins had a twist in her intestines that was cutting off blood flow.
#5 "She could have died from that," said Dr. James Yoo, chief of colorectal surgery at Tufts Medical Center.
It was a surprise that she even made it through the ceremony, he said. Jill received the emergency and life-saving surgery just hours after saying her vows.
#6 Hawkins said it was hard to look at the proofs from the photographer.
The images brought back both happy and painful memories. Despite being in pain throughout the entire ceremony, Hawkins looked absolutely stunning.
"It's really hard to come to terms with the fact that I could have died on my wedding night," said Hawkins.
