Looks are deceiving, particularly when it comes to knowing a person’s age. When you meet someone for the first time, it is natural to try to assume the age of the person. It might be to further cement if you have more in common together.
There is always that someone who seems to have secret access to the fountain of youth. That person may not even be trying hard to achieve that look. It may just be the case of good genes passed down.
One woman’s youthful face has become her boyfriend’s nightmare. Jessica Stevens is 32-years-old but when you look at her she looks like an underage girl. It doesn’t help either that she is a woman of petite stature. This becomes a problem when her boyfriend looks exactly his age and not a day younger.
Shakey Finks is a 42-year-old man who loves his girlfriend.
Finks met his girlfriend two years ago. The couple started dating six months after, which is also around the same time when he began getting harassed by strangers.
Finks has received threats as people assume he is a pedophile. He now carries a copy of Stevens' driver license to prove she is not underage.
The situation has escalated so much for the man that he went to the police. "I've been to the police about it. I've had a complete background check done. I don't have a criminal background. I haven't been arrested or charged with anything in my life," explains Finks.
He has had to endure false allegations as well. "Apparently I rape little boys in Stonehouse and little girls in Devonport," says Finks.
Stevens says they now choose to go out very little together to avoid the humiliation and harassment. Finks has even witnessed mothers holding their children closer when he is around.
Stevens encourages parents to be vigilant about dangerous people but there needs to be serious and sound evidence before casting judgement.
"I can completely understand parents' worries in this day and age," she says. "However the abuse of an innocent person based only on rumours is completely wrong, and is even slanderous."
