After hundreds of customer complaints, this creepy Halloween decoration had to be removed from Home Depot stores in Canada because people were so terrified after it brought back memories of a serial killer who peeked in windows during the 1980s.
This Halloween Decoration Had To Be Removed From Stores Because It’s So Damn Creepy
#1 Someone Is Watching You
Home Depot stores have pulled a Halloween prank prop called "The Scary Peeper Creeper" from its shelves in Canada because some customers found it too scary.
#2 Peeper Creeper
When is a scary decoration too frightening for even Halloween? When it prompts dozens of 911 calls about someone peeping into people's homes and crosses the line of taste.
#3 Lifelike Voyeur Decoration
The gag is a lifelike face that can be attached with a suction cup to the outside of a window, looking in, to resemble a Peeping Tom in a hoodie. It is manufactured by Fright At First Sight and is just one of their 'peeping' decorations offered.
#4 Canadians Were Outraged
Not everyone found the window decoration funny in Canada, where a notorious serial killer and rapist from the 1980s was a voyeur who peeked into bedroom windows at night. People felt the lifelike mask crossed the line between fun Halloween prank and outright creepy.
#5 Police Received Complaints
After seeing the decoration in her local store in Ontario, one customer complained that it was ‘inappropriate and makes light of a real-life, sinister issue that women face in our society.' ‘I fail to see the humor in it,' teacher and mom-of-two Breanne Hunt-Wells told CBC news. ‘It makes light of a very serious crime. Voyeurism is a crime in Canada.' Police had already received hundreds of complaints over the window decoration and asked Home Depot to stop selling the rubber face decoration.
#6 Still On Sale In The US & Online
Home Depot reacted by removing the Creeper masks from sale in its 182 Canadian stores and issuing an apology. However, the decoration is still on sale in the US and on the North Carolina-based company's web page. The item sells for just under $30 but for the creepier versions, you'll pay close to $60.
#7 Clown Creeper Version Outrages US
Scary Peeper's other products include the motion-activated Tapping Peeper, which taps the window with a fake finger when someone walks by, and the ski-masked Scary Intruder, which peers around a door frame. But US customers have now begun complaining to police and other agencies because they also offer a Clown Creeper, which is highlighting the fears of killer clowns being sighted throughout the Eastern States by children.
#8 Just A Fun Spirited Prank
Emily Dowtin, vice president of Scary Peeper and Fright At First Sight, said that the 'intention for this product is for it to be used as a fun-spirited prank' but admits that the clown version may be a bit insensitive at this time, though the products are the company's biggest sellers.
