This Is What The First Generation Of Skins Cast Are Doing Now
#1 If you don’t have at least one night from Sixth Form – where someone got completely messed up, married or lost a body part
that you and your mates will always refer to as your "Skins" night, then you probably wasted the best part of your youth.
Sorry, I think the realisation that the first series of Skins came out ten years ago has just made me feel very old and grumpy this morning. A lot has changed since the coming-of-age show that covered everything better than any PSHE lesson could first came to our screens.
#2 They didn’t have smart phones, Facebook or Twitter,
and I doubt Michelle would have let Tony get away with calling her nips in 2016.
Anyway, here's what the original cast are up to now:
#3 Tony (Nicholas Hoult)
just writing this is making me remember just how much I fancied Tony Stonem. He was arrogant, clever and then (ancient spoiler alert) suffered a horrendous head injury, which made watching his recovery enough more endearing. But when Nicholas stopped being Tony, the series poster boys' success didn't stop.
#4 He’d already starred in the classic ‘About A Boy’ alongside Hugh Grant, and after the show he landed the role of Beast in X Men,
dated J Law and also recently starred in Mad Max: Fury Road and Dark Places. Here he is at Glasto, hanging out with non other than Action Bronson. I'd expect nothing less:
#5 Sid (Mike Bailey)
Everyone had a Sid in Sixth Form. The "uncool" guy that hung round with the cool kids, who was deep-down the coolest of them all. Mike worked at the TopMan in Bristol and I remember my friend going down there and asking for his number in the uni holidays we clearly weren't the cool kids.
#6 Anyway, after the series Mike moved on from retail and acted in 1066:
The Battle for Middle Earth and We Are the Freaks, before seemingly retiring from actinG. Don't worry though, I've throughly Facebook stalked him and found this picture of him having a blast at Glasto this year. I wonder if him and Tony met up?
#7 Michelle (April Pearson)
Michelle was definitely the fit girl in school, and I'm still not sure if I've gotten over the whole Michelle, Sid, Tony, Cassie thing. Life after Skins has brought lots more acting work April's way and she now performs with Laboratory Theatre Company and is in upcoming film, Caught.
#8 She may not have been at Glasto, but she is going to the Skins Convention in Paris this year. Who knew that existed *looking at Eurostar*:
#9 Cassie (Hannah Murray)
Cassie was dreamy, weird and troubled and I loved her for it. You always kind of feared for what was going to happen next in her life, but luckily she got out of Bristol and ended up North of the Wall in Game of Thrones. I also saw her on the Hammersmith and City line the other day, and didn't succeed in not awkwardly staring at her.
#10 She also thinks social media is “kind of lame”, so here she is killing it as Gilly in that little known HBO show:
#11 Chris (Joe Dempsie)
Chris was that one mate who always went far too hard on the drugs and was definitely going to fail his A Levels no matter how enthusiastic he was. Chris had a lot of shit going on, and just when everything seemed to be looking up, he died of a brain hemorrhage and broke the hearts of every Skins fan. Watching the infamous funeral scene, hurt more than breaking up with my childhood boyfriend.
#12 Luckily though, he followed Cassie into Game of Thrones, but to Westeros and we haven’t really seen much of him since season 6…
but he did recently pop up in this sick music video, and is a bit of a legend on Twitter:
#13 Jal (Larissa Wilson)
Jal was sensible but naughty, kept Chris in check and also an insanely talented musician. She led everyone's grief when Chris died, but after the show and appearances in Tormented and mini-series The Town she's not really been heard of.
And, despite some serious stalking on social media I can't find her anywhere, so here's hoping Larissa is out there being super successful somewhere.
#14 Anwar (Dev Patel)
Anwar loved to rebel against his traditional Muslim upbringing and had one of the weirdest relationships on the show with Sketch who also had one of the saddest back stories. Dev went on to star in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, win heaps of awards and if you haven't seen it, you should check him out in HBO's The Newsroom.
#15 He also doesn’t dig social media, so I’m just going to leave this here:
#16 Maxxie (Mitch Hewer)
Maxxie was an amazing dancer, and addressed lots of important LGBT issues in the show. He carried on with the musical theatre vibe, starring as Danny Miller in Britannia High and even appearing on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
#17 He also looks WILDLY different to Maxxie these days (it’s basically just the hair…)
Think it's time to watch the whole of Skins, all over again
