Oxygen may not be the main constituent of the Earth’s atmosphere, but its role in the survival of many forms of life elevates its significance. No one can live without sufficient quantity of food, water, and oxygen. Of the three, oxygen is by far the most important and urgently needed. Have you ever imagined what if oxygen from the Earth was lost for 5 seconds?

What would happen if all of the oxygen in the world simultaneously disappeared...for five seconds?

All untreated metal surfaces touching one another would instantly weld together.
That's because a layer of oxidation prevents this type of spot welding.
Since light particles couldn't bounce off of oxygen, the sky would turn dark.
You'd notice this effect almost instantly...even if there weren't any clouds in the sky.

Apart from that, every concrete building would collapse.
Concrete depends on -- you guessed it -- oxygen. Simultaneously, every living cell would explode in a puff of hydrogen gas.

Oh, and your inner ear would basically explode.
But that wouldn't seem like such a big deal compared to that other stuff.
