Some sweets are a game of chance, whereby you buy a bag and hope the sweet gods that you get a majority bag of your favourite colour. And then you open up your fruit pastels and only have one black one. Because the sweet gods hate you.

You've probably noticed by now that a bag of skittles is like 50% yellow and then the rest is a sprinkling of the other, much tastier, colours. Admittedly, I always assumed that either A) my mind was playing tricks on me and I had just already eaten most of the good ones or B) the people working in the factories were eating all of the red ones before they got to the packet.

How could it be that the Skittle makers could create such inequality of colour in their bags?

Why do yellow Skittles make up the majority in a sweet society that could so easily be even.

This video of the Skittles factory has actually revealed that the hoppers that contain each individual color are actually being invaded by yellows.

So they've got their own stream, and they're also infiltrating the other colors.

It turns that there are a few theories, the main being that yellow dye is the cheapest to buy, because it's the most basic to produce so therefore they create more of them. This is also allegedly why american taxis are yellow, because the yellow paint works out cheaper!

Another theory is that yellow dye is their biggest order, as it will be used for the yellow and orange skittles so there's more likely to be extra leftovers to be made into extra sweets.

And the third is that yellow skittles look the brightest, so they like to have lots in the packet so that the sweets feel nice ann unnaturally bright.

Well it's not just me, people of Reddit have also been affected by the inequality and they have a few theories of their own

He puts forward a great point. This isn't just a Skittles problem, it's a much broader confectionery quandary.
