That was the year the young couple Marija and Momcilo Zlatic immigrated from Serbia to Australia, an incredible adventure for the two of them. He was working as a carpenter, and she was managing their small household. Life was good. They even managed to receive Australian citizenship.

18 months later, however, Marija received news that her mother was gravely ill. The young girl immediately booked a ticket home and returned to Serbia to care for her mother. She didn't know then that she would never see her Momcilo again.

Marija cared for her dying mother until she passed away. However, another misfortune awaited the young bride: for unknown reasons, she wasn't allowed to return to Australia and Momcilo. The couple regularly wrote letters to one another for years in order to maintain contact during their separation. But the letters slowly started coming less frequently until they stopped completely. The distance proved too much of a strain on the young marriage.

Years of silence became decades. Marija lived on her small pension alone in her cabin. Her neighbors cared deeply for the sweet, elderly woman, and helped her whenever she needed support. A sparse life, but the now 86-year-old Marija was content.

But then rumors about her husband found their way to her. Apparently, he had made quite a bit of money farming in Australia over the years and eventually re-married there. She decided to look into it with the help of a friend. She couldn't have been more surprised to find out that the rumors were true.

Unfortunately, she also discovered that he had died in 2011. But then came the real shocker: she was to inherit $670,000 from his estate. She became a Serbian millionaire overnight - that is over 7 million Serbian Dinar. It took 4 years to formally settle the inheritance, but Marija surprised everyone with her plans for the money. In a beautiful gesture, she decided to share the wealth with all of the people who had so kindly supported her over the past years and decades. Her words on the matter are quite touching, "I don't need all that money. All I need is water, bread, and some firewood for the winter. And I definitely don't need the money where I am headed."

What a woman! She knows what counts in life. Her story is an inspiring reminder that money isn't everything.
