Frankly, a lot of beauty product "essentials" are terrifying contraptions that look a lot like ancient torture devices. Perhaps the worst offender is the eyelash curler— how is one supposed to take a heated instrument and aim it at one's eye with a steady hand, without wreaking havoc on one's face?
Maybe this sounds melodramatic, but you might rethink your stance once you see the damage caused by a rogue eyelash curler .
#1 One Redditor, who goes by Aub3912, sneezed during the process of eyelash curling... And she posted the result online, much to everyone's horror.
#2 As she sneezed, the clamped down on the curler and involuntarily jerked her hand away from her eyes, taking out a good chunk of her eyelashes.
#3 Shockingly, ripping out your eyelashes doesn't feel too great.
#4 "I really thought I ripped by eyelid in half," she wrote.
And she'll likely be facing issues beyond pain. Now that the eyelid is exposed, bacteria can get in the eye more easily.

It takes about six to eight weeks for eyelashes to grow back fully. According to the beauty experts, a drop or two of castor oil on the sprouting lashes will prevent them from turning brittle or breaking off... You know, in case this somehow happens to you, too.
#6 Lesson learned: no sneezing while curling. Or, better yet, just skip the curling altogether and use mascara.
#7 This unlucky Redditor's story seemed to incite both fear and ridicule.
#8 ...We'll just stick with our makeup-free existence, just to be safe.
