#1 Cable Man Finds Dead Baby In A Crib

An Ohio father was arrested after his toddler's body was found badly decomposing in her crib, the Medina Police Department said.

A cable TV man updating equipment inside the apartment made the shocking discovery on July 29, a police news release stated.

A stunned employee at the apartment complex then called 911. "One of the guys went into the apartment to do some work in there and there's a baby in the cribOh my goodness. He said that it's a decomposed body," she told the dispatcher.

Police say they believe 21-month-old Ember Warfel's body had been left in the crib for at least a month.

"You never forget a smell like that," Police Chief Patrick Berarducci told CNN affiliate WEWS. "This is a very difficult case from the emotions of everybody involved."

At this time, the cause of death is still under investigation, and the Medina County Coroner's Office says they don't have an obvious cause of death from the preliminary autopsy.

Jeremy King, who lives next door to the apartment told CNN affiliate WEWS, "We had some issues with some smells. We thought it was cooking, tried to deal with it with incense. Certainly didn't expect that."

Eric Warfel, the girl's father, was not in the apartment at the time of the discovery. Police later tracked him down after he had reportedly been staying at a motel, the press release stated. He was arrested without incident.

During Warfel's bond hearing, a magistrate said that he had allegedly put trash in the child's room to disguise the smell of the decomposing body, according to CNN affiliate WEWS.

The magistrate said Warfel told police that he put Ember in her crib when she died on or about June 18, according to CNN affiliate WEWS.

Warfel was also accused in court of not notifying authorities or the rest of the child's family about her death.

Warfel has been charged with abuse of a corpse and is being held on a $1 million bond. Police say additional charges are expected.

Calls to Warfel's attorney, Paul Grant, were not returned.

#2 "The Silent Twins" Were Creepier Than the Ones in The Shining

These twin sisters did everything together. They were inseparable. But the terrifying true story about their tormented lives sounds like something straight out of a Stephen King film.

As children, June and Jennifer Gibbons spoke their own coded language, became criminals and even repeatedly tried to murder each other despite their love for one another.

"This sister of mine, a dark shadow robbing me of sunlight, is my one and only torment," June wrote in her diary. Both of them repeatedly communicated that they wanted to gain their freedom by killing the other off.

The sisters were the only black girls in their small Welsh town of Haverford West, which may have made them feel excluded from everyone else around them at a very early age. While growing up, they began relying on one another more and more, and shutting out the rest of the world. They even refused to speak, causing people to dub them the "Silent Twins."

They were adamant about mirroring each other's every move. According to the Chicago Tribune, whenever they felt threatened in public spaces, they would freeze in place, remaining speechless and motionless for any given amount of time. A therapist, Cathy Arthur, began studying their mystifying case, and even she was taken aback at how in sync the two girls were. When she took them horseback riding, in an effort to promote individuality, it became clear that would never be a possibility.

If one of them fell off their horse while riding, the other would follow almost immediately.

Soon enough, the Gibbons took up committing crimes together, such as arson and theft because, as June wrote in an entry, "No friends. nothing else to do. Nothing to fill the cold hour." During this time, that's when they attempted to snuff each other. June once tried to drown Jennifer in a river. Jennifer strangled June with a telephone cord. Strangely enough, they were somehow able to forgive and forget.

Their appalling crime spree continued until 1982, when they were detained for burning down a barn. A judge found them both insane and sent them away to the notorious Broadmoor Hospital, a high-security psychiatric institution, when they were 18.

While locked up, they were generally kept apart, but that hadn't prevented them from continuing to attack one another. They even attempted suicide multiple times to escape their suffering.

At the age of 29, they finally made a promise that one of them had to die. It seemed like the only way out from a life of hell.

A reporter, Marjorie Wallace, who became close with the women and later wrote a biography about them, went to visit them during this complex time.

That's when Jennifer explained to her: "Marjorie, I'm going to die. We've decided." And she meant it.

On the day they were released from Broadmoor to a lower security facility, Jennifer allegedly died due to an inflammation of her heart. However, the real cause of her death remains a mystery.

Ever since her sister's death, June has lived a seemingly normal, happy life with her family in Wales. It's almost as if she never shared that incredibly bizarre life with her psychotic twin, or that she even had a sister in the first place.

She was finally freed from the dark shadow that kept her from the sunlight.

We don't know about you, but we definitely think this real-life horror story should be made into a movie for the big screen.

#3 Teen Kills Classmate, Uploads Selfie with the Body to Snapchat

A Pennsylvania teenager has been accused of murdering a classmate and subsequently uploading a selfie of himself with the other teen's body to social media site Snapchat.

MSN reports that Maxwell Marion Morton, 16, allegedly shot fellow student Ryan Mangan, also 16, before posing for the photo that led to his apprehension by authorities. Morton sent the image via Snapchat of himself with Mangan's dead body to a friend, who saved the image before the application automatically deleted it. The friend showed the picture to his mother, who turned the image over to police.

The friend also received text messages from Morton stating "Told you I cleaned up the shells," and "Ryan was not the last one."

"[Police] received a copy of the photo which depicted the victim sitting in the chair with a gunshot wound to the face," a police affidavit states. "It also depicts a black male taking the ‘selfie,' with his face facing the camera and the victim behind the actor. The photo had the name ‘Maxwell' across the top."

Mangan's body was discovered by his mother

#4 Florida Woman Has Sex with Dog in Grandma’s House; Takes Selfies of It

Police in Bradenton, Florida have arrested and charged 18-year-old Ashley Miller with two counts of sexual activities involving animals specifically, with her current dog 2-face, as well as her former dog, a pit bull Rottweiler mix named Scarface.

The Smoking Gun notes that police found graphic photos on Miller's cell phone that she shot during the action. When asked, Miller admitted that she was the woman in those photos, and said she had 2-face perform oral sex on her 30 to 40 times in the past five years.

According to the New York Daily News, Miller told detectives that 2-face lives at her grandmother's house in Bradenton.

Each time she wanted to have sex with the dog, she'd lock herself in a bedroom, take off her pants and call 2-face over.

The pup would "put her snout into her vagina on her own" without Miller forcing her into the act, the teen claimed. Miller said that's where the sex ended: she never touched 2-face sexually, she said.

During at least two of the oral sex sessions, Miller snapped photos of the pup licking her vagina. Cops discovered the puppy porn in two hidden folders on Miller's phone, one titled "2-face fun" and another titled "Me."

Miller added that her prior dog "Scarface" performed similar acts on multiple occasions.

While family members were said to be in the house during these encounters, none of them were allegedly aware of what was happening.

Miller was freed from jail Saturday after posting $1000 bond, and is scheduled for arraignment on July 14.

#5 Teen Organizes Fundraiser for Deceased Friend, Texts Later Reveal She Encouraged Him to Commit Suicide

A high school senior has been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly encouraging her friend to kill himself.

Michelle Carter, an 18-year-old student of King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, Mass., was indicted as a "youthful offender" by a Bristol County grand jury. According to the Sun Chronicle, Carter urged Conrad Roy III, 18, of Fairhaven to commit suicide.

Roy eventually did kill himself last July by idling in a truck in a Fairhaven Kmart parking lot. Authorities later went through Roy's cellphone and found texts that suggest Carter played a major role in his eventual death.

"Not only did Conrad tell Carter in several of his texts prior to his death that he was scared and didn't want to leave his family, she continued to encourage him to take his own life," said Fairhaven police Detective Scott Gordon in a police report. "And when he actually started to carry out the act, he got scared again and exited his truck, but instead of telling him to stay out of the truck Carter told him to ‘get back in.'"

In the wake of Roy's death, Carter organized a softball tournament last September to raise money for mental illness on behalf of her deceased friend, and frequently posted about suicide prevention on her social media profiles.

Spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Quinn Gregg Miliote issued a statement concerning the case Thursday:

Based on the totality of the investigation, it is alleged that Ms. Carter had first-hand knowledge of Roy's suicidal thoughts. Instead of attempting to assist him or notify his family or school officials, Ms. Carter is alleged to have strongly influenced his decision to take his own life, encouraged him to commit suicide and guided him in his engagement of activities which led to his death.

Carter, who lives in Plainville, was indicted February 5 and arraigned the following day. She is currently free on bail and due to appear in court in April, when she could face punishment as an adult if convicted.

#6 This Couple’s Baby Died 9 Hours After Delivery & They’re Going to Jail

Dale and Shannon Hickman are 30 year old grieving parents. But they were both convicted in 2011 of second-degree manslaughter for the death of their son, David, who died nine hours after his home birth in 2009. Last week a judge rejected an appeal made by the couple, saying again that they could have done more to try and save their son.

Their son David was born two months premature with undeveloped lungs and a staph infection he'd gotten from his mother while she was pregnant. He died after having trouble breathing and turning blue.

The Hickmans are both members of a faith-healing church in Oregon that is clouded in controversy. As you'll hear in the video above, its members have an unusually high number of child deaths due to their faith-healing practices.

The appeal the Hickmans made last week was based on their conviction, on the grounds that the prosecution had the burden to prove the couple knew their religious beliefs would cause the death of their child, The New York Daily News reported.

During the couple's 2011 trial, a doctor testified that baby David would have had a "99 percent chance" of surviving had the couple called 911 or a doctor. The baby officially died of staphylococcus pneumonia, which could have been treated.

Mr Hickman said he didn't call 911 because he was praying. The couple never considered taking the baby to the hospital, prosecutors said. Instead, they annointed the sickly baby with oils. Shannon Hickman said that she had no choice but to do as her husband said because of church rules.

The Hickmans' conviction on second-degree manslaughter charges typically requires a mandatory minimum sentence of six years in prison, but because of a religious exemption in state law which hadn't expired in 2011, they may only receive 18 months in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Two other parents from the church were convicted earlier this year for failing to seek medical care for their infant daughter.

She had a growth that could have left her blind in one eye and they were sentenced to three months in jail.

#7 Two Virginia Television Journalists Fatally Shot in on-Air Attack

ORIGINAL REPORT FROM REUTERS BELOW

Two television journalists were shot and killed in Virginia on Wednesday morning while conducting a live interview, and authorities said police were pursuing a suspect who appeared to be a disgruntled current or former employee of the TV station.

The shooting occurred at about 6:45 a.m. EDT during an interview being broadcast live from Bridgewater Plaza, a Smith Mountain Lake recreation site with restaurants, shops, boating and arcades and holiday rentals.

The area is in the south-central part of the state, about 120 miles (190 km) from the capital of Richmond.

The journalists were filming an interview for the morning news show of the WDBJ7 TV station in Roanoke, Virginia. In the broadcast, shots were heard and the reporter and the person being interviewed screamed and ducked for cover.

The reporter Alison Parker, 24, and the cameraman, Adam Ward, 27, died in the incident, WDBJ7 said. The woman being interviewed was wounded.

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said in interview on Washington radio station WTOP that the suspected shooter had been identified as a disgruntled current or former station employee.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has taken the lead on apprehending the suspect, with help from state police and others, McAuliffe told WTOP.

"Heartbroken over senseless murders today in Smith Mountain Lake," McAuliffe said on Twitter.

Asked on CNN if the station had been targeted or had been threatened, WDBJ7 President and General Manager Jeff Marks said, "Every now and then you get a crazy email or something and we'll look into it. Nothing of this nature than any of us could recall."

#8 9-Year-Old Twins Left Home Alone for 4 Months While Parents Were Abroad

A breaking news story has stunned residents of a local Manchester, New Hampshire community.

Twin boys, age 9, were discovered living alone in their apartment for four months, while the parents were in Nigeria with the boys' three siblings.

The incident was discovered back in November when officials at the boys' school contacted the state Division of Children, Youth and Families. They had learned that the twins were caring for themselves, waking in the morning, getting on the bus, and then eating breakfast and lunch at their school.

Their father, Jerusalem Monday, reportedly left in July with the intention of having everyone return in August. He placed his younger brother, 25-year-old Giobari Atura (pictured below), in charge of the children; however, Atura would only stop by every couple days and, according to the AP, "when police got involved in November, they found no edible food in the refrigerator and only ramen noodles in a cabinet."

Likewise, an affidavit for the case says, "It should be noted that no operable phone was located within the apartment."

The boys' parents told authorities that they checked in with the uncle regularly, who assured them that everything was fine. They also explained their return had been delayed in their return to the United States because of illness and passport issues.

Atura was charged in December with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, and freed on $500 bail.

According to Michael Valentine, Hillsborough County assistant attorney, the parents returned to the US shortly after learning the children had been left alone and they do have custody of their children. Valentine stated in a release that no charges are expected to be filed against the parents, because they "left the children in the care of the uncle."

#9 This Man Found His Wife in Bed with Another Man, What He Did Next Will Shock You

Virgil Bates is no one to mess with. In fact, he may rival Mike Tyson on this one and we don't mean with his left hook.

Recently, Bates came home to find his wife in bed with another man, Matthew Tipton. The two got in a fight, as would be expected, but shockingly, the 40-year-old Bates bit off a chunk of his rival's ear.

In court, Virgil Bates admitted a charge of aggravated assault following the attack on Matthew Tipton in Ohio on June 24. Bates had initially been charged with felonious assault but admitted the amended charge.

He explained what happened when he caught his wife with Tipton to Judge Ruth Ann Franks:

"I was able to get [Tipton] in a headlock. He proceeded to clamp down and bite my forearm. I proceeded to panic, and I wound up biting his ear, and a piece of his ear came off."

Bates is due to be sentenced on August 31. He faces up to 18 months in prison. Prosecutors are expected to recommend a treatment center and community service.

He is currently being held on $25,000 bond.

As for Matthew Tipton's ear the court heard that it could not be repaired.

Do you think Bates went too far or was his action justified considering what he'd just witnessed?

#10 Teen Who Beheaded Mom After Watching ISIS Videos Gets Sentenced

After falling in love with an Islamic extremist, 15-year-old Lisa Borch took a kitchen knife and beheaded her mother. It's been said that she had become obsessed with everything ISIS stands for, even the grisly beheading videos she watched online.

Minutes before she attacked her mother, Borch had been watching the beheadings of British hostages David Haines and Alan Henning on YouTube, carried out by the terrorist Jihadi John.

Borch did not act alone. She committed the heinous murder with her radical boyfriend Bakhtiar Mohammed Abdulla. They stabbed her mom Tina Römer Holtegaard at least 20 times at their home in Kvissel, rural Denmark.

Borch had met Iraqi 29-year-old Abdulla at a refugee center near her home. They fell in love, prosecutors said.

After the murder Lisa called police yelling: "I heard my mother scream and I looked out the window and saw a white man running away. Please come here, there is blood everywhere."

When the police got to the house, they immediately became suspicious because Borch was calmly playing with her phone. It was after investigating her computer that they learned about her obsession with ISIS beheading videos. At her trial prosecutors said: "She watched them the whole evening long."

Lisa and Abdulla had plans to flee to Syria after murdering her mother. She and her mother were always arguing because of her relationship with Abdulla, who Lisa's mother did not approve of.

In court, Lisa squarely places the blame of her mother's murder on Abdulla. He claims the opposite, saying he only came to the house briefly, "to help Lisa." By the time police got to the house, Abdulla was not there. His fingerprints, however, were found in the mother's bedroom.

Both Borch and Abdulla were found guilty of murder. Borch will serve nine years in a young offenders institution followed by eight years in jail.

Abdulla received 13 years, and when his sentence expires he will be expelled from Denmark.

#11 Dad of Baby Shaken to Death Tells Nanny: ‘You Should Die for What You Did

Babysitter Michelle Heale stood in court and listened to the harsh words of Adam Hess, the father of a toddler that died after being shaken.

"You should die for what you did to Mason," Hess said.

Heale sobbed as Mason's parents spoke out. "Please consider the maximum sentence possible to punish this monster, who stole our son's life," requested Hess.

The former babysitter asserts that she accidentally broke Mason's neck, when she was trying to keep him from choking. Prosecutors have argued this isn't the case, as they didn't find any evidence of applesauce in, on or near the body.

#12 This Teenager Claimed to Be a 500-Year-Old Vampire After Brutally Murdering Helpless Couple

Back in 1996, Roderrick Justin "Rod" Ferrell brutally murdered a Florida couple, the parents of his then girlfriend, Heather Wendorf.

Ferrell was a member of a gang of teenagers in Murray, Kentucky, who believed they were vampires. Known as the "Vampire Clan" they would often drink each other's blood and recruit estranged youth into their lifestyle.

At the time, Ferrell was only 16-years-old and claimed to be a 500-year-old vampire named Vassago.

Naomi and Richard Wendorf were at home in the quiet, rural neighborhood of Eustis when Ferrell and his acccomplice, Howard Anderson, entered their residence through an unlocked garage door. The helpless couple had no idea what was about to happen.

Richard was asleep on the couch when his head was bludgeoned countless times with a crowbar. When Heather's mother came out of the shower, she was also attacked and killed in cold blood. Although the pair did not drink their victims' blood, before escaping the scene of the crime in the couple's Ford Explorer, Ferrell took a moment to carve his cult's symbolthe letter V into Richard's corpse.

Heather's sister, Jennifer, later came home to discover her parents dead and her sister missing. Could you imagine stumbling about such a horrific and traumatizing sight?

Three days after fleeing, police caught up with the killers, along with a few of their followers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, including 15-year-old Heather.

In 1998, Ferrell was sentenced to the death penalty, but it was later reduced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. At the time, he was the youngest person on death row.
