Cecil Rodgers got a phone call as he was getting ready to spend time with his family for Christmas. The man on the phone posed as Cecil's eldest grandson. He told him that he was in trouble and had been in a car accident. He claimed that he was drinking and driving and hit a woman's car, and she was seven months pregnant. He claimed that he was charged with DUI and was in jail.

Cecil's "grandson" then passed the phone off to his "lawyer." He claimed that he was trying to get his grandson out of jail and needed his bail money right away. He told Cecil to bring $2300 to Walmart where he could transfer the money to another Walmart that was close to where his "grandson" was being held.

Cecil desperately wanted to help his grandson. So, he did what he was told. He headed straight to an ATM and then headed to his local Walmart to complete the transaction. Thankfully, the cashier was pretty sure this whole thing was one big scam.

Cecil told the cashier at Walmart, Audrella Taylor, the story about his grandson and was instantly suspicious. "He said something about somebody was locked up in jail, he got a call, and he needed to send $2,000," she said. Audrella, who has worked for Walmart for five years, said she knows a scam when she sees one and would not allow Cecil to make the transfer. "I said, ‘I am going to refuse the sender. I’m not going to let you send that money. I think you are being scammed,'" Audrella continued.

Audrella urged Cecil to call his children and grandchildren to find out if there was even an accident. As it turns out, there was no accident. If you are wondering why Cecil did not contact any of his family in the first place, it is because the scammers told him not to do so. They said to not tell any family or the tellers at Walmart.

Needless to say, Cecil is incredibly grateful for Audrella putting a stop to this whole plan and dishing out her knowledge about scams like these. That would have been a lot of money for Cecil to part with. He really could not afford it. Luckily, Audrella saved the day!
