Using the secret-sharing Whisper app, women divulged some of the unexpected things they think about during sex
Some said they think about past partners, while others fantasize about porn or other women
Others get bored, thinking about chores and other 'random things'
A few admit they are self-conscious, while some can't stop themselves from thinking about their pets or deceased relatives
When sex is good, men and women are both totally in the moment, enjoying each other as the rest of the world just falls away.
But when sex is, well, less than good, minds can wander far from the bedroom.
So what do women think about when they're not focused on their partner? As it turns out, plenty of different things and several of them revealed their innermost thoughts when they're doing the deed on the secret-sharing Whisper app.
Some women, it seems, just get bored when the sex isn't as mind-blowing as they'd like it to be, and their brains turn to some other pressing matters, like chores or their next meal.
'I think about random things during sex. Like do I need more shampoo?' wrote one woman.
'I think about what I'm going to cook for dinner when I'm bored during sex,' offered another.
Several others also mentioned food, with one admitting she's usually 'think about cheeseburgers' while getting hot and heavy with her boyfriend, and another saying a specific snack gets her to the finish line faster.
'When I have sex with my boyfriend, I climax faster when I think about pretzels,' she said.
A few are less weighed down by unfinished items on their To Do lists than than totally strange, totally unsexy things.
One woman wrote: 'I sometimes think about our cats when I have sex with my husband.'
Another added, concerningly: 'I always end up thinking about relatives that have died when I have sex with my boyfriend and I don't know why.'
'When sex with my boyfriend gets boring,' started another, 'I think about complex math problems.'
Some confessions seem to indicate that their might be trouble in paradise for the women, since they need to think of other things and even other people to get off
'I watch porn to have something to think about during sex. Keeps my boring boyfriend interesting,' wrote one.
'I think about my vibrator,' said another, and one, who may want to consider switching teams, wrote: 'When I'm having sex with my boyfriend, I think about girls to get off.'
A couple admitted to thinking about their boyfriends with other women either as a turn-on or out of jealousy while at least one admitted to insecurities that get in the way of having a good time.
'I can't help but think about the fast and stretch marks over my thighs and stomach,' she wrote.
Finally, just one woman seems to have a nice, comforting thought while getting intimate. She wrote: 'When I'm having sex with my BF and we make eye contact, I think to myself, "We'll make beautiful children.'
