A Brazilian singer, Viviane de Queiroz Pereira – known by her stage name Pocah – says she was taken to hospital in an emergency with trapped gas as she is not yet on 'farting terms with her boyfriend.

The 27-year-old shared her gas problem on Instagram as she posted images of herself in hospital to her 15.7 million followers.

"I woke up at 5.30am with severe stomach pains and ended up in the hospital," she said.

The singer also assured her followers that she is doing much better now.

Pocah added: "But that's it, guys. I'm now fine. Just an accumulation of trapped farts."

She advised her female fans: "Girls, don't be ashamed to fart in front of your guy, because what's really embarrassing is not letting your guy sleep because you're in discomfort, going to hospital with your guy, and the diagnosis being 'trapped farts'.

"From now on, I'm letting them rip, guys."

Pocah added: "I'm medicated and I'm fine."

Pocah blamed TikTok for suggesting that she 'ignore' the stomach pains, which is exactly what she did and as result, she underwent several tests before being told what the problem was.

Pocah belongs to the municipality of Queimados in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro and is of African, Portuguese and Native Brazilian descent.

Dr Raj (@dr.karanr) says that, on average, people fart 14 times a day and 'if someone tells you they don't [fart], they are lying'.

He also tells that not farting at the right time can have gross consequences for the body.

He says in the video: "If you hold in a fart too long it can be reabsorbed into your bloodstream and breathed out when you exhale."
