A disturbing theory has started to surface after a young woman was found dead on a bus, with 26 iPhones reportedly stuck to her body.

The 20-year-old, who was from Brazil, was sadly discovered unresponsive while she was travelling last month.

The incident happened on July 29, when local emergency teams were called following reports that a passenger had fallen seriously ill while aboard a bus heading to São Paulo.

The bus had made a stop at a roadside restaurant located in central Paraná, Brazil, when the woman began showing signs of serious trouble breathing. It’s believed she may have experienced a seizure before eventually suffering cardiac arrest.

Emergency responders did everything they could to save her. They performed CPR continuously for 45 minutes, but despite their efforts, the young woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

What made the case even more puzzling was what police uncovered afterward. Officers discovered that she had dozens of iPhones attached to her body and other suspicious items packed into her luggage.

The post-mortem examination revealed that her body had been covered with several packages. Among them were 26 mobile phones. Authorities also found additional phones and a stash of alcoholic beverages inside her bags.

Now, investigators have reportedly developed a theory. They suspect she may have been attempting to transport these items illegally during her solo journey from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo.

As reported by The Mirror, officials involved in the case have said that the combination of what was found both on her person and in her luggage points toward a potential case of illicit smuggling.

Her body has since been sent to the Forensic Medical Institute for further examination. Meanwhile, all 26 iPhones along with the rest of the items from her luggage have been confiscated and turned over to the federal authorities.

Investigators from Paraná Civil Police are continuing their work on the case. They are still waiting on the results of the full forensic report, which will determine the exact cause of the respiratory issues that triggered the fatal cardiac arrest.

Reports also claim that she may have suffered a seizure, which could account for her breathing difficulties. Medical experts believe that if her breathing stopped during the seizure, it may have caused her heart to stop as well.

Authorities have not yet released her name to the public, since the investigation is still ongoing. However, they did confirm that a drug-sniffing dog searched her and found no traces of illegal substances.

Cops told Brazilian news outlet Globo: "The Paraná Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the conclusion of forensic reports to clarify the cause of death."
