Woman Deals With Miscarriage In A Way That Many People Find Creepy
#1
Natalie Harcourt, a 16-year-old girl from the UK, had only been together with her boyfriend for a few weeks when she got pregnant. Even though she was very young and had already broken up with the father, Natalie decided to keep the baby. But fate had something else in store for her. She suffered a miscarriage and fell into a deep depression. She says the only reason she is able to smile again is the unusual method she used to deal with the pain of losing her baby.

Natalie's friends gathered more than $400 to buy her a hyper-realistic doll. When she saw it, she started to glow. Natalie immediately assumed the role of mother. When her friends went out partying, she would stay home to care for little "Lexi." She woke her baby up at 9 o'clock every morning, prepared breakfast for them both, and watched television - all with her fake baby.

They would cuddle, go to the park to feed the ducks, or visit friends. Natalie appeared the perfect, loving mother - if only the doll could breathe! But it didn't matter to Natalie. She bought a baby crib, clothes, and toys. She spent more than $150 on Christmas gifts for the doll. "It was so painful to lose my baby. Lexi is a huge comfort for me, but I will never forget my baby," said Natalie.

She even set an alarm to go off every few hours to experience what it's like to wake up in the middle of the night. "I treat her like a real baby. She is my one and only and I take her everywhere with me. I know some people find it strange, that I take care of her when my friends go out. But at least I'm not spending my money on alcohol and other drugs," she said.

From the very beginning it was clear that Natalie loved Lexi. Today, they have a relationship almost like a real mother and daughter. At 6 o'clock, Lexi is put to bed and a monitor is turned on to make sure she's safe. Natalie hopes to one day have children of her own, preferably a daughter, so she and Lexi can share clothes. But before that, she hopes to train to become a midwife. Even though the doll may help Natalie deal with the pain, therapists warn that this strategy could actually hinder her from really dealing with the pain and loss. They recommend therapy to help Natalie learn not to project all of her feelings onto the doll.
This doll is a bit creepy. Hopefully, Natalie can find a way to deal with her pain and get some closure. Then, one day, she may turn out to be a great mom!
