When she opened her can of tuna she almost fainted when she saw little eyes looking back at her, but she could never have imagined what it was.
Woman Found This Mysterious Creature In Her Tuna Can
#1 Tuna Surprise
When she opened her can of Princess tuna to prepare lunch, she stepped back in shock as she saw something inside that should not have been there. Poking it with a fork, she could see that it was a 'purply thing, a gut sack or intestine,' then she noticed the eyes looking back at her.
#2 Something Was Staring Back At Her
Zoe Butler, London, says that when she opened her tuna she immediately noticed something inside that wasn't supposed to be there. She said it was 'disgusting, and had a spiny tail along the bottom.' She added, 'it was quite grim. I didn't tell the kids because I don't want to scare them off of tuna.'
#3 The Creature Is Red With Bright Black Eyes
Zoe's grandmother Susan Goddard, 69, said, "It's a little red and has eyes, bright black, looking at you. We did manage to ascertain that it was dead." Zoe maintains that she isn't looking for compensation or a lifetime supply of tuna fish, she is just trying to figure out what the creature is and make sure that it doesn't show up in anyone else's lunch.
#4 When In Doubt Ask Twitter
She posted her photos of the creature, and the tuna on Twitter and tagged Princess Tuna and the Nottingham Post newspaper. She got a reply from the Post instantly as they wanted to run a story on the 'alien-like' critter found in the tuna can. Before long the news media outlets all got involved, as well as experts from various scientific organizations.
#5 Tunagate
The tiny tuna monster has set Twitter abuzz with explanations as to its origin. The search for answers has been dubbed #tunagate by followers. Everyone from CBS News to the World History Museum has chimed in with possibility's.
Stuart Hine from the Natural History Museum, in London, said: "‘From what I can see I would support the head of a Tongue-eating louse, Cymothoa exigua, or similar. These are associates of smaller fish than Tuna and fish that tuna eat. But clearly it has been chopped up so it's hard to tell."
#6 It's A Megalopa (Immature Baby Crab) Or Possibly An Alien
After sending the creature off to the Princess company for investigation, they released a report stating that the little creature was a Megalopa, or small immature baby crab. They state that it was probably eaten by the tuna or had somehow been overlooked in the catch and processing of the fish when packing for sale.
That did not stop Twitter users from coming up with their own theories as to what it could be. They decided it was everything from a blowfish to a turtle and even some kind of alien creature.
