A woman experienced a terrifying moment that left her shaken after discovering the source of strange crying sounds inside her house.

Joette Breeden, who lives in Virginia, had just returned home after spending time at a family gathering. She was looking forward to a quiet night and some rest. But her night took a frightening turn on March 27, shortly before 10 p.m., when she walked into something completely unexpected.

The unsettling scene pushed Breeden to quickly retreat from her home. She jumped back into her car and immediately called the police for help.

The sound of crying coming from inside the house completely caught her off guard and left her feeling uneasy.

At first, Breeden thought the noise might just be coming from the TV. But her confusion quickly turned into fear when she realized there was a man inside her home and he was bleeding badly.

The stranger was sitting right on her sofa. It was at that moment she turned around, walked out of her home, and contacted emergency services.

The woman initially thought the noise she was hearing was from a TV she had left on Fox 5

During an interview with Fox 5, Breeden shared that she didn’t actually see anyone at first she could only hear what sounded like a man crying.

She said: "When I entered the house, I could hear what sounded to me like a man crying and at first I thought I had left the TV on but then I looked and the TV was off and the lights were still off."

"I could see someone on the sofa, so I just turned around and ran back out of the house jumped in my car and called 911."

She also mentioned that when she got home, she noticed something off her carport door was already open, which struck her as unusual.

Jeffrey Long, a representative for the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office, later spoke about what first responders discovered. He explained that the man inside the house had visible injuries, especially to his body and neck.

He added: "They rendered first aid immediately; the house did not appear to be disheveled and again the woman did not know who the gentlemen was, reportedly."

The injured man was eventually transported to Winchester Medical Center by emergency services. Sadly, he didn’t survive and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities have not yet released his name, and the specific nature of his injuries remains unknown at this time.

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office has launched an investigation into the case. They're currently working to determine whether the man was the victim of a crime before ending up in Breeden’s home.

In their official statement, they said: "Anyone with information related to this incident, or who may have been in the area last night and seen suspicious activity, is asked to call CID detectives at 540-422-8650."
