The idea of the ruse was to claim £115,000 from health insurance firm
A Vietnamese woman recently revealed to the police that she hired someone to cut off her left hand and foot so that she could claim the insurance amount of $180,000!
30 years old Ly Thi N went to extreme lengths by asking an acquaintance of hers to chop her left arm and foot in return of 50 million dong ($2,200).
The idea was to claim health insurance by making it took like a train accident. The guy who did it, named Doan Van D, would act like a passer-by and take Ly to the nearest hospital after he would have discovered her injured after the "accident".
When police took their initial statements this is what they believes would have actually happened but as soon as they started investigating the case, they found that the girl and her savior both knew each other and it was no stroke of luck that the girl survived a "train accident".
Further investigations revealed that Ly's business had been struggling and in order to recuperate her losses she bought a hefty health insurance just before the so-called accident.
