#1 Bringing Home A New Baby
Some people can afford to raise a large family and go out of their way to make it happen. Sometimes, though, there are problems, and the couple must resort to things like adoption or even fostering. Imagine finding the perfect baby to bring home and finding out it has a problem you had never expected to bring into your home.
That was the question that Lisa and Steve found when they decided to become foster parents. They already had a family of their own, 2 healthy children but wanted more. Then they fostered a baby girl with a terrible problem. But what they did next will shock you and boost your faith in humanity.
#2 Meet Lisa and Steve
Lisa and Steve live in Pheonix, Arizona and have a nice home, well-paying jobs, and two of their own children. The loved their two children, Meghan and Kevin, but felt that there was room enough and love enough for a few more mouths to feed and care for. They wanted another child but decided to foster an infant instead.
#3 Enter Baby Erin
The Foster Care program has strict rules and regulations and is highly regulated by the State. They try to ensure that the needy children go to the best homes possible. It took over 2 years for Lisa and Steve to be accepted as foster carers. Then one day, baby Erin arrived in their lives bearing a huge burden.
#4 She Was An Addict!
Unknown to Steve and Lisa, baby Erin was addicted to drugs because her birth mother had serious issues, resulting in the infant being placed into foster care. Her mother was a heroin addict and, sadly, she passed that on to little Erin.
Erin was completely addicted to drugs and about to go through withdrawal. What Steve and Erin did next was amazing.
#5 A Happy Family
The couple began nursing the innocent baby back to health by providing all the necessary care and comforts. Times were tough during Erin's rough period of withdrawal. Seen here with her two new siblings, who had fallen in love with Erin, Steve and Lisa decided to take the next step.
#6 Enter Jacob
Little Erin had an older brother of her own, whose name is Jacob. You won’t be surprised to learn that Jacob’s life was hard too. He was bounced from foster home to foster home and also suffered from a drug addiction that was never treated.
So Lisa and Steve opted to foster Jacob and reunite him with his little sister, whom he had never seen before. They needed a lot of patience and care for him because he didn’t speak English. Then things changed dramatically for the two children.
#7 A Real Family
Steve, Lisa, and their children had a family meeting and decided to try to adopt the two foster children and give them a permanent home filled with love. So in 2007, they formally adopted Erin and Jacob and transformed their lives from foster care to adoptees. But that was only the beginning of Steve and Lisa’s journey as parents.
The family was happy and doing well, but the couple felt they could do even more for children just like Erin and Jacob.
#8 Meet John
With enough love and room to go around, Steve and Lisa took in a third foster child, named John. This time the couple knew his background, and sadly, just like little Erin, his mother was a drug addict which left John addicted as well.
A few months into the fostering, poor little John was also diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum too. The couple had their hands full at this point. But they had been through a lot already.
#9 Four More!
As though looking after and seeing to the needs of five children wasn't enough, Steve and Lisa went to the foster care agency and requested another child. However, they learned of four abandoned children who also had a troubled birth mom, and they took them in as well.
The State doesn't like breaking up families when possible, so Abigail, Anthony, Nathan, and Emily were all brothers and sisters prior to fostering. As with the other foster children, they had similar issues with addiction and disabilities. There troubled lives were cleared when Steve and Lisa took them home to join the family.
#10 Making it Official
2011 was a special year for all the children in Steve and Lisa’s care. It was the year in which the family became a formal family as one because the couple officially adopted all the children living under their roof. Their family had grown from 2 adults and 2 children to 11 people!
#11 Eleven Years Later
