'A Lifetime Of Mockery' If You Name Your Child 'Prince William' In France
#1 “What would you like to name your daughter?”
"I would like to name her Strawberry because I like strawberries."
It almost sounds just as ridiculous as the couple who thought naming their child "Prince William" was a good idea.
#2 You want to name your child what?
A French couple has been banned from naming their child "Prince William" in connection to the British royal because it could lead to a "lifetime of mockery."
Once that name was a no-go, they asked to use the name "Mini Cooper" after the British car, but that was also turned down.
In France, there is an article in their civil code that "allows judges to protect a child from a potential lifetime of mockery by overruling the parents," according to a French legal source.
Up until 1993, babies born in France had to be given a name that was approved and acceptable from a list given by the government. The list no longer exists, but the government still holds power to overrule the parents' decision in the child's best interest.
Just last year, a couple from northern France decided they wanted to name their child "Nutella" after the chocolate-hazelnut spread. Which was also banned.
Another couple had tried to name their baby girl "Strawberry" and you guessed it, that was turned down as well.

Where was this banning system when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West decided to name their baby girl North? Or when Beyonce and Jay Z named their child Blue Ivy? Where are these children's protected rights against a lifetime of mockery?
