The beloved actor, Mike Hagerty passed away at the age of 67.
Hagerty was loved by all and was known by fans for his guest roles on US sitcoms like Friends and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
The tragic news about the actor's death was broken by Hagerty's co-star and friend Bridget Everett in an emotional Instagram post, as she penned a heartfelt tribute to her old friend:
"With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles," Everett wrote in an Instagram post to her 210,000+ followers. "A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life.
"Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty, her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg. He will be sorely missed."
In her second post, 50-year-old Everett shared four pictures of the two of them together during their time working on the HBO series Somebody Somewhere.
"I loved Mike the instant [I] met him," she wrote alongside the snaps. "He was so special. Warm, funny, never met a stranger. We are devastated he has passed. Mike was adored by the entire cast and crew of Somebody Somewhere. Our thoughts are with his wife and family."
Hagerty was born in Chicago and began his career as a comedian when he became a part of the improvisational comedy troupe The Second City, which also helped launch the career of stars like Bill Murray, Ryan Stiles, Mike Myers, and Tina Fey.
An instantly recognizable star because of his talent, Hagerty would go on to feature in shows such as Cheers, Family Ties, Seinfeld, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Most of the comedy lovers will remember Hagerty as Mr. Treeger - the dance-loving superintendent for Monica's building in Friends. Despite only appearing in only five episodes of the sitcom, Hagerty left an indelible mark with fans.
Audiences will also remember Hagerty for his three-episode stint on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, in which, he played Captain Holt's predecessor Captain McGintley.
