#1 It wasn't great

Popping your cherry, dropping your V-Card, being deflowered: whichever awful way you put it, losing your virginity is supposedly a monumental event in your life. It's the end of your innocence and built up to be this pivotal moment where you suddenly become a woman (or man) and gain a whole new perspective on life.

At least this is how I thought it would go. But when my moment finally came around, it's safe to say I was highly disappointed.

It happened last semester after a society social. It involves snow and a lot of alcohol. I'd met a guy at the bar and following a few drinks and a half-shouted chat, we drunkenly stumbled back to his place, the epitome of romantic settings Oak House.

This was not new to me. I'd gone back to guy's places before I'd just never had sex with them. I don't really know why I decided to do it that night. My only guess is that the allure of the dirty green brick walls and his prison cell of a bedroom did it for me and I thought fuck it (or me).

The whole sex thing was incredibly awkward. After a bit of standard foreplay he climbed on top of me and went for it. I remember lying there as he silently thrust himself inside me, desperately concentrating on trying to look like I was having a good time. Unfortunately acting is not my strong point and after only a few moments he blatantly asked: "Are you a virgin?". I replied honestly, "yeah." "Oh, well I've never come in a girl before."

And that was that. He thrust away quietly for a short while longer before rolling over and falling asleep. When we woke up in the morning we exchanged a few words and I left, embarking on my first true walk of shame back to Victoria Park.

I feel like there are so myths surrounding your first time that simply aren't true. They say that you should only lose it to somebody who you care about and that you're pretty much guaranteed to fall in love with them. That's madness.

As long as you're comfortable with the situation you put yourself in, it really doesn't matter. And as lovely as he was, my feelings for him are non-existent. I certainly didn't fall head over heels in love and couldn't care less about the fact that we don't really talk.

The one thing that I cannot dispute however is it hurts like a bitch. I bled far more than I'd expected, winced in pain each time I went to the toilet for a while afterwards and had to sit on a crumpled up scarf in my lectures the next day.

Ultimately do I regret losing my virginity in a one-night stand? No. It's probably not the right approach for most people but I'm fine with it. Was it everything I'd built it up to be in my mind? Of course not. It was awkward, painful and not at all pleasurable. Did I gain a new perspective on life? Did I hell?! I feel the exact same way I did before. In fact, the only thing I gained was a killer water infection. Thanks pal!
