'Ice Addict' Australian Accountant Arrested After Massive Drug Bust
Isaac Emmanuel Roberts, 35, from Toowoomba, is facing drugs charges that carry the maximum death penalty.
He was pictured beside two other suspects guarded by police officers who wore balaclavas and carried rifles.
He had been arrested at the airport on Dec this year.
Roberts was allegedly found with 6.22 grams of ecstasy, 14.32 grams of methamphetamine and 22 mils of a psychotropic substance,The Herald Sun reported.
The drugs were allegedly discovered when his luggage was X-rayed.
Indonesia carries the maximum death penalty for drug importation crimes. Indonesian police alleged Roberts admitted to being a drug user but denied he was a dealer.
Details of his arrest were kept secret until Tuesday, when the drug bust was announced by Indonesian officials.
The 35-year-old was presented to reporters wearing a bright orange jumpsuit and a balaclava over his head.
Speaking to media after the conference, Mr. Roberts reportedly said he was invited to Indonesia by a customs officer.
" I'm just a f*****g addict. They want to waste resources on addicts, they want to punish addicts? This is ridiculous. What about the f…..g importers? I wasn't going to sell it to anyone here, no one was going to use it here. This is ridiculous. This is an embarrassment," he told reporters.
Roberts fell ill after the press conference and is now being treated in the Trijata police hospital in Denpasar.
Lawyer Deni Sedana, one of a team of four representing Roberts, said his client had fallen ill late yesterday and that he often suffered from depression and was a suicide risk.
Roberts is now being processed by police at Denpasar police station.
His case will then be handed over to prosecutors to prepare for trial. It is likely he will soon be transferred to Kerobokan jail.
Husni Syaiful, a senior official at the Customs and Excise office for Bali, said:
Roberts would likely face charges of drug possession and be importing and possessing a psychotropic drug. These charges carried the death penalty, life sentence or 20 years in jail.
However, if he is dealt with under legislation aimed at drug users, the death penalty would likely be off the table.
